Faced with a lot of information on social networks about the suspected commercial fraud and potential food safety risks of se dieu intestines, on the afternoon of May 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety launched an inspection of a series of business locations selling this item in the area.
The Department conducted a surprise inspection of a restaurant specializing in selling pig offal and porridge in Tan Binh district, one of the famous places selling pork offal, with locations in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi .
This is part of a campaign to inspect establishments selling the dish, after much information on social networks said that this dish was soaked in chemicals and additives, which could be harmful to health.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Khanh Phong Lan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, the Department is currently conducting inspections, tracing the origin, taking samples for testing, and clarifying whether the product uses toxic substances or not.
Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan said that recently, many restaurants have advertised the dish of se dua (cigarette intestines) as a commercial fraud, with the purpose of increasing the selling price and increasing profits. In fact, se dua (cigarette intestines) is very rare and hard to find on the market.
Specifically, the pig's intestine is a short section of the pig's small intestine, with thick intestinal walls and many folds. When eaten, it feels chewy and crispy, and is popular with many people. However, pigs with this type of intestine are very rare. Not to mention, this part also contains many bacteria and parasites, which pose a risk to food safety if not processed properly.
Previously, a video of a restaurant sharing a 40m long, 5.8kg pork intestine dish went viral on social media, causing much controversy about its authenticity.
Recently, many chefs also shared the video and said that the inside of this cigarette is actually made from chemicals and additives, which is harmful to the health of users./.
