The meeting was recently held at the Huong Tra Ward Police Station headquarters with the participation of the Party Secretary, the Chairman of the People's Committee, representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, the ward police, and those who have completed their prison sentences.

The sentiments expressed by Mr. Pham Hoang Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huong Tra Ward, seemed to resonate with the emotions of those who had completed their prison sentences and returned to normal life.

LVT, a local young man who was previously imprisoned for intentional assault, shared the difficulties he faced in his job search.

T. said that he currently makes a living as a painter, but his income is unstable, so he wants to borrow money to learn to drive and find a stable job.

After listening to T.'s story, Mr. Pham Hoang Duc voluntarily offered to help from his personal funds, lending T. money to pay for vocational training tuition and promising to find a job for T. after he finishes his studies.

Mr. Duc wants Mr. T. to commit to complying with the law, not to re-offend, and to stay away from vices.

“Everyone has the right to choose a positive attitude towards life and become a useful person. T. and many of the brothers and sisters sitting here have paid the price for past mistakes. They have lost the trust of their families and communities, but I believe everyone always has a chance to start over. Find your own trust, the trust of your family, and the trust of your neighbors. Once you regain that trust, you won't have to worry about not having capital or jobs to continue living a useful life,” Mr. Duc said.

The sharing continued even more after T. told the story.

Ms. PTHT returned to her hometown in December 2024, after her 9-year prison sentence for fraud and misappropriation of property was reduced.

Ms. H. hopes to find a stable job so she can gradually repay the debts she owes to the victims from years ago.

Understanding her situation, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward presented her with a sewing machine and an overlock machine, enabling her to return to her previous garment-making profession.

"I have been accountable to the State and to the law. The years I spent serving my sentence helped me realize my mistakes. Now, I only hope for a chance to rebuild my life and repay those who were harmed," Ms. T shared.

The timely support from Huong Tra ward helped Ms. T. heal the wounds of her life, opening the door to hope so that she could start over again.

Supporting the aspiration for rehabilitation.

According to a report from the Huong Tra Ward Police, there are currently 162 people who have completed their prison sentences and returned to the locality.

In accordance with Government Decree No. 49/2020/ND-CP and related directives, the ward police have advised the ward People's Committee to assign individuals and organizations to manage, educate , and assist this group of individuals.

Specific activities include vocational training, job placement, and support for business loans, aiming to help them stabilize their lives and become useful citizens.

Lieutenant Colonel Vuong Quoc Hoi , Head of Huong Tra Ward Police, informed that the ward police closely coordinate with departments, organizations, and people's committees of residential blocks, integrating propaganda at the grassroots level to eliminate stigma and discrimination against people who have completed their prison sentences and are reintegrating into the community.

Local police regularly visit the area to gather information, meet with and encourage those reintegrating into society, helping them strive for a better life, find employment, and avoid reoffending.

Thanks to the leadership and attention from Party committees and authorities at all levels, the reintegration work has been implemented comprehensively and extensively in every neighborhood, contributing to maintaining security and order.

“By lighting a lamp of hope, the local community is helping those who have made mistakes find their way back, contributing to building a civilized and safe community. We will regularly organize this activity to promptly listen to, support, and accompany those who have completed their sentences, so that everyone can work together to build a peaceful and happy Huong Tra ward.”

Regaining the trust of family and community takes time, so they themselves must work hard and cultivate their morals. The government doesn't need those who have completed their prison sentences to sign a written commitment, but rather to commit through their attitude towards life and their civic responsibility in the years to come," Mr. Pham Hoang Duc shared.
