This morning, June 9th, the closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 academic year and the awarding of university diplomas to new graduates - students of cohort K69 - took place at Hanoi Pedagogical University.
During the ceremony, Professor Nguyen Van Minh expressed his gratitude to the new graduates, most of whom will become teachers, and offered some words of advice on life and character before they left the teacher training college.
Professor Nguyen Van Minh presented graduation certificates to outstanding graduates of Class 69.
"Remember, a wildfire can start from just a tiny spark…"
According to Professor Minh, the responsibility of educators is to accompany and bring about positive change for each individual and each person's destiny. Students will be the ones who brighten the "picture" of education, make each person better, and bring more positive energy to life and to everyone.
Professor Minh pointed out some negative phenomena in people's emotional lives, about the good things that are unintentionally lost, to warn: "Remember, a forest fire may start with just a tiny spark… I hope you will go to the very depths of life, touch the deepest hearts of people so that you are not indifferent and become insensitive, so that what is genuine will prevail. Understanding is not about being melancholic, but about gradually kindling goodness through your actions and never letting your heart grow cold."
Professor Minh shared that the students of Hanoi Pedagogical University are the meaning of his life. He is also an ordinary person like everyone else, with moments of joy and sadness, worries and reflections, and even pessimism. But more than anything, whenever he thinks of his students, all the hardships, worries, and anxieties become calmer and warmer, helping him to overcome them.
Professor Minh confided: "Whenever I see the children playing innocently, my heart swells with joy; but when I see a few of them sitting thoughtfully under the trees, my heart sinks. I wonder, why is it that somewhere here, the children's hearts are still burdened with sadness?"
One day, while walking down the street, a student working as a motorbike taxi driver greeted me and said that he worked for Grab outside of school hours. I admire and respect you all, and much more… You have given me many valuable life lessons.
It seems that all of you who come to this school, above all, possess a deep love for humanity and for life, and I am fortunate to live in that abundant love. You are a part of my life, my flesh and blood. I am grateful to you!
Teachers are the guardians of children's childhood.
Professor Minh hopes that in the future, educators will teach children to love their parents, to be grateful for the hardships and struggles that go into earning a living; to share with those less fortunate and to be forgiving of mistakes. Only then should they teach children even greater forms of love.
Be the protectors of children's childhood. Don't let studying rob children of their innocence; remind parents that childhood is a magical time; ask children if they enjoyed school instead of asking how many points they got today.
According to Professor Minh, losing the innocence and purity of childhood is a sin. Originality is the root of human goodness. Let's strive to keep children's kites soaring high over windy village fields, to preserve their carefree childhood years. Let's discard the idea of turning children into outstanding experts, and always remember that we should educate them to love, care for, and share with those close to them. A message to parents: don't force your children to mature prematurely and become tools for your ambitions.
Professor Minh expressed: "You students will be the ones to build trust. Trust doesn't come from flowery words or ostentation; it doesn't come from mere books. Trust must begin with behavior and actions. The power of education lies in persuasion, and it must begin with persuasion, not punishment or execution. Persuasion begins with love and forgiveness; with understanding to touch the heart, to awaken the deep roots of compassion. A helping hand when someone is helpless is worth a thousand times more than any celebratory gathering."
Professor Minh also advised the new graduates not to enter life with the illusion that it is a place where they can do whatever they want. There are good things there, but there is also envy and pettiness; there are also many pitfalls, but that is life, and no one can escape it, so they must face it.
"Only by doing good can we push back against evil; we cannot instantly eliminate it. That requires courage, perseverance, and time. But I believe you, my students, who have willpower, compassion, and a sense of responsibility, will be ready to dedicate yourselves and succeed," Professor Minh shared.
