On the afternoon of January 10, Vietnamese sports received good news with the participation of shooter Le Thi Mong Tuyen in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The General Secretary of the Vietnam Shooting Federation - Ms. Huynh Phuong Loan confirmed this information. Mong Tuyen is the fourth Vietnamese athlete to compete in the Olympics next year.
Le Thi Mong Tuyen participated in the women's 10m air rifle event at the 2024 Asian Shooting Championship. This event has 2 Olympic spots. In the final, 8 shooters competed. However, 4 of them have already secured Olympic spots, so the remaining 4 shooters will compete for 2 Olympic spots based on their best results.
Le Thi Mong Tuyen finished the final round in 5th place, behind 4 athletes who had already secured Olympic berths. Therefore, Mong Tuyen and the person right behind her, Fatemeh Amini (Iran), won two berths to Paris this year.
Le Thi Mong Tuyen won an Olympic ticket at the Asian shooting championship.
Thus, the Vietnamese shooting team has achieved its goal of winning at least 1 spot at the 2024 Olympics at this year's Asian Championship. Ms. Huynh Phuong Loan said that the shooting team continues to look forward to hope in the women's sport pistol and men's rapid fire pistol events taking place on January 11, 13 and 13.
Vietnam Sports aims to win at least 12 Olympic spots. However, with the Olympics still half a year away, this task is very difficult.
Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet said: " We set a target of 12-15 places to attend the 2024 Olympics. At first, I was advised to set a target of 15-18 places, but I felt it was not suitable, so I reduced the target. However, this number is not easy ."
Before Le Thi Mong Tuyen's Olympic ticket, Vietnamese sports had 3 tickets for Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Trinh Thu Vinh (shooting) and Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming).
