Adding a new approach to building a learning society

Building a learning society is a fundamental, long-term requirement of our country's education, and at the same time an urgent, strategic task that determines the success of industrialization, modernization and the development of the knowledge economy in Vietnam. The book "Building a learning society: A new approach to growth, development and social progress" helps readers have more reference materials on this issue.

The first part, “Building a Learning Society,” has eight chapters, highlighting the importance of learning, how firms learn and innovate, and how the market structure in which firms operate affects their ability to learn and innovate. It concludes with an assessment of the welfare and stability of the entire economy .

The second part, “Policies for a Learning Society,” has six chapters, discussing solutions for a learning society. The authors propose policies in many areas to successfully build a dynamic learning society, from industry development policies, financial policies, macroeconomic policies to policies on intellectual property rights and social transformation.

In the book, the “learning society” perspective offers a completely different view of growth and development strategies from some aspects of the standard neoclassical approach.

This book is written with the aim of presenting the simplest framework for understanding some of the key factors that determine the progress of economic development, as the authors share: “We hope that the insights this book brings will help countries use new policies effectively to promote economic development and growth for their countries… The policies that can help build a learning economy and a learning society mentioned will shape not only the economy, but also society in a broader scope, for a good development, further improving the living standards of people, now and in the future”.

Nowadays, Vietnam is in the process of industrialization, modernization and proactive international integration, building a learning society is a truly necessary approach to growth and social progress that our Party and State need to focus on and promote to develop the country. The book helps readers in general, policy makers, managers, economic experts, and business people in particular have more reference materials to build a learning society.
