8.3% OF CANDIDATES SCORED 901 POINTS OR HIGHER
Yesterday afternoon (June 12), the Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Examination Council announced the results of the second round of exams and the results of the entire 2025 exam.
According to statistics from the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the group of candidates (TS) achieving 901 points or higher this year is 8.3% (higher than 4.4% last year), the group of candidates with 701 points or higher is 40% (in 2024 it was 37%). Meanwhile, the percentage of TS achieving average points or higher in 2025 is lower than last year (this year it is 61% while last year it was 66%).
However, in terms of the actual number of candidates, this year's high-scoring candidates increased sharply compared to last year in each score range. Specifically, from the average score and above, in 2025, there were over 93,200 candidates (1.3 times higher than in 2024). From 701 points and above, this year is also nearly 1.6 times higher than in 2024. Similarly, 34,358 candidates achieved scores of 801 and above (twice as high as last year). From 901 points and above, there were 12,732 candidates (2.7 times higher than last year). Particularly in the group of candidates with high scores of 1,001/1,200 points and above, this year there were 1,465 candidates, nearly 4 times higher than last year.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), commented: "In both rounds, the distribution of exam scores this year clearly shows the characteristics of a near-normal distribution with a balanced bell shape, showing that the exam is capable of classifying candidates effectively. The average score (662.78) and median score (653.0) are nearly equivalent, reflecting the symmetry in the score distribution, with no significant deviation towards high or low scores. The standard deviation of 159.70 shows a reasonable level of score dispersion, helping to clearly distinguish between groups of candidates with different abilities. The score range from 120 to 1,122 demonstrates the diversity in qualifications of candidates, while helping universities and colleges easily determine the appropriate admission threshold for each group of candidates".
Explaining the reason for the increase in the number of candidates with high scores this year, Dr. Chinh said that the number of candidates taking the exam increased sharply compared to last year. "Not only did the exam scores increase, but compared to last year, the score range this year also had a lower height, a wider spread, and very little distortion. This shows a stronger differentiation of scores, making it more convenient for schools to use the exam results for admissions," Mr. Chinh added.
D PREDICTION OF ADMISSION STANDARD SCORE
Looking at the test score spectrum and the new admission context this year, along with admission experience from previous years, university experts have made forecasts and analyses about the admission situation based on the competency assessment test.
Dr. Pham Tan Ha, admissions and training consultant at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said: "The first difference of this year's exam is that the number of candidates taking the exam increased by nearly 48,000 people compared to last year (an increase of over 31%), leading to an increase in the number of candidates with high scores." Dr. Ha predicted that the increase in candidates with high scores will push the admission score higher. However, according to Dr. Ha, the admission score also depends on the number of candidates applying for each major. However, majors that attract many good candidates will still have high admission scores and vice versa.
The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam attracted 152,792 candidates, an increase of more than 30% compared to last year.

"In the context of this year's new admissions, when all admission methods convert to equivalent scores, each school will have its own calculation method to ensure that candidates with the same capacity are admitted. However, this score conversion does not have much impact on the benchmark score of the admissions method based on the capacity assessment test," Dr. Ha added.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, also said that this year's exam score range has a good width, meaning the differentiation of candidates is high, which is favorable for admission. "Based on this result, if schools build a correlation function to ensure that admission is based on the same level as last year's admission, then this year's benchmark will increase in all score ranges," Dr. Nhan analyzed. According to Dr. Nhan, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry's benchmark scores may increase slightly in all majors, especially majors with benchmark scores in the range of 700-under 800 last year may increase more.
Master Phung Quan, admissions expert at the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University), analyzed that the number of candidates with a score of 650 or higher in this year's competency assessment test has increased compared to previous years. Candidates in the top 3% with a score of 950 or higher will enter "hot" majors such as: artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, international business, journalism... Candidates with a score of around 900 will enter majors such as: microchip design, control-automation engineering, mechatronics, marketing, logistics, economic law, multimedia communications...
Check exam results from June 16
From June 16, candidates can look up their exam results at the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam portal at: http://thinangluc.vnuhcm.edu.vn . The electronic exam result certificate will be issued from June 23. From this year, this unit will no longer send paper copies as in previous years.
The average score difference between the two sessions is 100 points, a record high, why?
According to experts, this is the first year that the two capacity assessment exams of Ho Chi Minh City National University have a difference of more than 100 points.
Accordingly, the average score of more than 92,000 candidates in the second round was 718.7, 100.4 points higher than the first round. This difference is currently the highest since the organization of this exam.
The average score of the two rounds of exams in recent years has not been too different, ranging from 15.2 to 25.8 points, but by 2024 it has skyrocketed to 82.4, 2.4 points higher than the difference in 2019. By 2025, the difference will continue to increase, reaching over 100 points, showing that the second round is becoming an opportunity for candidates to "change their lives" if they really focus on studying, according to experts.
The above data does not include the years 2018, 2020 and 2021 because Ho Chi Minh City National University only organized one capacity assessment exam.
"The higher average score also shows that in the second round, many candidates will have a breakthrough score, with an increase of 150 to 200 points or more. This is rare in previous years and helps candidates feel more confident that if they try hard and study with the right method, their results will improve a lot," commented Master Bui Van Cong, a teacher specializing in online competency assessment test preparation in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Dang Duy Hung, manager of the Lasan - Helius Education (HCMC) competency assessment test preparation system, said that the reason is that the number of candidates taking the test is increasing and among them are many talented candidates who want to find more options for university admission. In addition, the second round of questions is easier than the first round. Not to mention, up to now, questions about language, logical thinking and data analysis are no longer as unfamiliar to candidates as before.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh gave three reasons: First, of the total number of candidates taking the second round, more than 65,000 candidates had taken the first round. Second, the second round took place about 2 months after the first round, giving candidates more time to review and consolidate their knowledge. At the same time, due to the experience in the first round, candidates had more experience in taking the test, had better time management skills, and had better exam room psychology, so their test results improved.
