Grade 10 Exam: Nine Tips for Students Before Taking Literature Test

Tomorrow morning (June 6), 9th grade students in Ho Chi Minh City will begin taking the 10th grade entrance exam with the first subject being literature, lasting 120 minutes.

This year, the structure of the literature exam has changed according to the 2025 sample exam, part of the 2018 GeneralEducation Program. To help candidates confidently enter the exam room and do their test effectively, teachers with many years of experience in supervising and grading exams advise candidates the following.

1. There is very little time left, so you should not review too much but only review the basic knowledge of the curriculum, mainly grade 9. This knowledge is mainly in the requirements and literature knowledge of each lesson.
2. Carefully review the sample test for the 10th grade exam in 2025 of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, paying attention to the requirements (how to ask) and suggested answers. From there, practice more on the skills of analyzing the test, the skills of identifying the requirements of the test in each question, and identifying the main keywords.
3. To summarize, remember and grasp firmly how to answer reading comprehension questions effectively; the operations and steps on how to write paragraphs (literary essays) and essays (social essays).
4. Relax, eat carefully; prepare all necessary supplies, go to the exam on time; enter the exam room with a comfortable and confident mindset.
5. When receiving the test, do not rush to do it right away, but read the test carefully, read all the questions in the test. Spend a reasonable amount of time analyzing the test, analyzing the questions; the relationship between the questions and the sections.
6. Present clearly and neatly, limit erasures and cross-outs. Handwriting should be easy to read, limit spelling mistakes, and use sentences. Do not write in two ink colors or two font styles (e.g. italic and upright).
7. Avoid extreme, negative thoughts that violate good customs and laws.
8. Keep track of the time when doing the test. Divide the time for each part of the test specifically to keep the test on schedule. Avoid unnecessary redundant answers or answers that are too sketchy, lacking ideas, or you will lose points.
9. When you finish your essay, it is essential to reread it to check and edit. To do this, you should spend about 5 minutes on this step.
