This morning, April 29, the Ministry of Education and Training announced statistics on the number of candidates registering for the 2025 high school graduation exam by subject.
2025 is the first year of the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. Candidates take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: literature and math; the remaining 2 subjects students can choose from the subjects they have studied at school (foreign languages, chemistry, physics, biology, geography, history, economic and legal education, information technology, technology).
Looking at the statistics table, it is easy to see that history is the subject chosen by the most candidates with 499,357 candidates; followed by geography with 494,081 candidates; English with 358,870 candidates; physics with 354,298 candidates....
On the other hand, if we do not count foreign languages other than English (Russian, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean), the subject with the fewest candidates is industrial technology with 2,428 candidates; information technology with 7,716 candidates... These are also subjects that "appear" for the first time in the high school graduation exam....
Natural science subjects such as biology and chemistry also have much fewer candidates choosing them than social science subjects...

Previously, statistics from the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) showed that by 5:00 p.m. on April 28, the end of the registration period for the 2025 high school graduation exam, the whole country had 1,165,289 candidates registered, an increase of nearly 98,000 candidates compared to 2024 (in 2024 there were 1,067,391 candidates).
The number of 12th graders taking the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program is 1,122,507 (accounting for 96.33%). The number of independent candidates is 42,782 (accounting for 3.67%). Of which, 16,072 independent candidates take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program (accounting for 1.38%); 26,711 candidates take the exam according to the 2006 General Education Program (accounting for 2.29%).
In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training has decided to organize the development of 2 sets of exam questions (1 set of questions according to the 2006 General Education Program and 1 set according to the 2018 General Education Program). Candidates studying under the 2006 General Education Program and before, who have not graduated, will be able to take the exam with questions built according to the 2006 Program (similar to the exam questions in 2024 and previous years).
Candidates studying under the 2006 Program, who have graduated from high school but wish to take the exam in 2025 to get the results for university and college admission can choose to take the exam according to the 2006 Program or the 2018 Program. The organization for candidates taking the exam according to the 2006 Program will be kept stable as in 2024.
