World gold price today

World gold prices increased today, with spot gold prices at 3,364 USD/ounce. World gold prices generally increased by 2.22% in the past 24 hours, equivalent to an increase of 73 USD/ounce.

World gold prices increased sharply over the weekend

Gold prices rose 2% on Friday, hitting a one-week high, after weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data reinforced expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut. New tariff announcements also boosted demand for safe-haven assets.

Spot gold hit its highest since July 25, rising 1.8% to $3,347.66 an ounce at around 5:48 a.m. GMT (12:48 p.m. ET) on Aug. 1. For the week, the precious metal rose 0.4%. U.S. gold futures rose 1.5% to $3,399.80 an ounce.

World oil prices

In the first trading session of the week, world oil prices increased by more than 2%, after the US and EU reached a framework trade agreement. At the end of the trading session, Brent oil prices increased by 1.60 USD/barrel (equivalent to 2.3%), to 70.04 USD/barrel, WTI oil prices increased by 1.55 USD/barrel (equivalent to 2.4%), to 66.71 USD/barrel.

Entering the second trading session of the week, oil prices increased by more than 3% in the context of US President Donald Trump increasing pressure on Russia regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Although oil prices fell sharply in the last two trading sessions of the week, overall for the week, Brent oil prices still increased by nearly 6%, WTI oil prices increased by 6.29%.

Oil prices continued to rise more than 1% in trading on July 31, as investors closely watched President Donald Trump's tough stance on Russia, along with warnings about new tariffs that could be applied to countries that buy Russian oil.

Market attention was focused on President Trump’s latest statement on Tuesday, which said the US would impose tough measures, including 100% secondary tariffs on Russia’s trading partners, if Moscow fails to make progress in ending the conflict with Ukraine within 10-12 days.

Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates unchanged in a divided meeting, while also giving no clear signal about when it might start easing policy, which also contributed to the unpredictable volatility of oil prices.

At the end of the fourth trading session of the week, world oil prices turned down in the context of investors increasingly concerned about the deadline for imposing new trade tariffs (from August 1) by the US on partners that have not reached a trade agreement with Washington. Accordingly, Brent oil prices fell 71 cents (equivalent to 0.97%) to 72.53 USD/barrel. WTI oil prices fell 74 cents (equivalent to 1.06%) to 69.26 USD/barrel.

Additionally, one of the factors impacting the oil market was that US inflation rose in June due to tariffs, increasing the price of imported goods such as home furnishings and entertainment products, thereby reinforcing the view that price pressures will increase in the second half of the year.
