Coach Hoang Anh Tuan has listed 22 players for the Vietnam Olympic team to go to Chongqing to attend the 19th Asian Games. Compared to the Vietnam Olympic team that finished fourth at the 18th Asian Games, the squad under Mr. Tuan is not outstanding. Therefore, the goal of the Vietnam Olympic team at the 19th Asian Games is to reach the round of 16.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan had enough players at hand after the 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifying round. On September 14, the players were divided into two teams to compete against each other and get acquainted with the tactics. Earlier that day, Mr. Tuan and his team were unable to practice in the morning due to prolonged heavy rain in Hanoi . In the afternoon, the whole team had only 15 minutes to practice tactics and assemble the squad for the first time.
Physical training and finishing exercises are emphasized in the training program of the Vietnam Olympic team.
According to the youth football development strategy of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the Vietnamese Olympic team participating in the 19th ASIAD has 16 players born in 2003 or later. Therefore, experienced players such as Vo Nguyen Hoang, Nham Manh Dung, Dinh Xuan Tien, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Thai Son, Nguyen Quoc Viet, Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Duc Viet or Quan Van Chuan... show superiority in class compared to their teammates.
Sharing during the training session, midfielder Duc Phu said that the Vietnam U23 team is trying to overcome weaknesses before the 19th ASIAD. "In the 2023 U23 Asian qualifiers, we have the opportunity to face foreign opponents like Yemen. The opponents at ASIAD are similar, they play very strong football, are physically strong, and have better height. We have to try to overcome our weaknesses" - the 20-year-old player said.

Commenting on coach Hoang Anh Tuan, Duc Phu described: "He always reminds his students about the philosophy of playing football and knows how to help us recover our physical strength and improve our spirit to prepare for the tournament. He is very relaxed and at the same time asks the team to try to complete the task at ASIAD 19".
The player of PVF-People's Police also said that the competition between the group of players who just won the U23 Southeast Asia championship and completed the task in the U23 Asia qualifying round helped the whole team confidently enter the 19th ASIAD.
Meanwhile, coach Hoang Anh Tuan said he will continue to divide the team into practice matches before entering the tournament to help the players have a good feel for the ball, get used to the practiced tactical diagram before applying it smoothly in the competition.
The strategist from Khanh Hoa also affirmed that he and the whole team will complete the set goals at ASIAD 19. "Every time I finalize the list to play the tournament, the emotions I feel are hard to describe. No one wants to leave the game and I deeply share the sadness of those who stay. There are still many, many opportunities, you guys should be confident about your future" - Mr. Tuan confided.
