Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on April 22 that in the past four days, the country's military has eliminated a total of 21 "terrorists" in northern Syria and Iraq.

Türkiye's Anadolu news agency quoted Minister Akar as saying that three of these terrorists were killed in Iraq's Zap region.

According to Mr. Akar, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is a "tool in the hands of imperialism" that hinders Turkey's development and the Turkish government is determined to eliminate the PKK.

He made it clear that the fight against " terrorists " would not end until security in Turkey's national and border regions was guaranteed.

The PKK has been engaged in armed clashes with Turkish forces for more than three decades.

The Turkish government, the United States and the European Union (EU) consider the PKK a terrorist organization.

Previously, on November 14, 2022, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu accused the PKK of carrying out a bombing at a busy shopping area in Istanbul that killed at least 6 people and injured 81 others.

In a statement, Minister Soylu said the suspect who carried out the bombing and 21 other people involved had been arrested.

The bombing occurred on the afternoon of November 13 (local time) on the famous Istiklal pedestrian street in Istanbul. Turkish authorities confirmed that this was a terrorist attack.

President Tayyip Erdogan and Vice President Fuat Oktay said a woman carried out the attack.

The woman had been sitting on the couch for more than 40 minutes and left a few minutes before the explosion, suggesting a timed or remotely detonated bomb, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said.

Istanbul and other Turkish cities have been the target of attacks by Kurdish separatists, Islamist militants and other groups, including a series of attacks in 2015 and 2016.

A double bombing outside a stadium in Istanbul in December 2016 killed 38 people and injured 155 others./.
