The era of recycled fashion

Người Lao ĐộngNgười Lao Động30/12/2023

Utilizing leftover materials from previous projects helps minimize production costs. Especially in the current challenging financial climate, saving money is paramount in all industries, and fashion is no exception. Furthermore, the trend of environmental protection is seen as a modern, civilized, and progressive awareness. The synergy of all these factors creates a powerful impetus for the outstanding development of the recycled fashion industry.

At the recently concluded Elle Fashion Show 2023, designer Ngo Hoang Kha showcased a collection made from leftover fabric. Designer Tran Hung also brought designs made from scraps to London Fashion Week. The outfit he created for beauty queen Huong Ly to compete in Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 once astonished the public, who couldn't believe it was made from scraps of fabric.

Vietnamese-born designer Xuan Thu Nguyen (living in the Netherlands) also creates garments from scraps of fabric and recycled materials in her In Alignment collection, showcased at Vietnam International Fashion Week 2023. Tom Trandt, the founder of Moi Dien, a fashion brand, is also one of the names who has been involved with this production method for many years...

Currently, with the negative impacts of waste on the environment, recycling has become a global trend applied in all fields, including fashion. Therefore, recycled fashion is gradually becoming a part of life, adopted by well-known brands such as Levi's, New Globe Traveller, Beyond Retro, Freitag, etc.

The recycled fashion trend has truly exploded, with numerous tutorials guiding consumers on how to recycle readily available materials to create new outfits. For consumers unfamiliar with fashion, repurposing existing clothes in their wardrobes and transforming them into new designs is the simplest method (many tutorials are available online). For fashion enthusiasts, using designs made from recycled materials is not only "stylish" but also contributes to raising environmental awareness. For designers, focusing on recycled fashion is a trend, a way to stay ahead of the curve.

Recycling is a smart and sustainable choice to help minimize waste and the negative impact of the fashion industry on the environment. This practice is actually not new in many parts of the world . Reusing waste materials is both a practical way to reduce waste and a way to promote environmental protection.
