Concert fashion - a 'new weapon' to win over the audience.

In today's youth's understanding, a concert is not just a musical party, but a stage that combines sound, visuals, and fashion.

This is where artists not only showcase their vocals but also express themselves through fashion style, turning each appearance into a "fashion moment" powerful enough to explode in the media.

Recently, programs like "Beautiful Sister Riding the Waves," "Brother Says Hi," "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles ," along with concerts by My Tam, Soobin, etc., have shown that domestic artists are quickly catching up with global trends, transforming the music stage into a true "runway" to engrave their personal brand in the hearts of the public.

Sharing his thoughts on this trend, Travis Nguyen, Fashion Creative Director of "Beautiful Women Riding the Wind" (two seasons 2023-2024) and "Beautiful Women Concert 2025," said: "Concert fashion is booming globally. In Korea and China, concepts are meticulously developed, transforming costumes into important artistic elements. In Vietnam, recent music programs are also paying more attention to costumes and concepts, especially to suit the trend of digitalization and short video content on social media."

" WARNINGLESS WEAPONS"

Fashion creative director Travis Nguyen observes that today's fans not only listen to music but also appreciate and discuss the outfits artists wear on stage. According to him: "Clothing is not just about aesthetics; it helps artists assert their individuality. It's a 'silent weapon' that conveys the concept, content of the song, and the artist's personality. A well-planned investment in fashion is justified because, in addition to creating a visual impact, it opens up opportunities for brand collaborations, media exposure, and transforms artists into multi-talented individuals in both music and fashion."

The recent string of music shows and concerts demonstrates the increasing attention artists and producers are paying to fashion. Large-scale shows consistently show elaborate and expensive costume investments with clear objectives. In "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind," over 350 costumes were prepared for 48 artists, an impressive number showcasing the meticulousness and professionalism in building stage image. Singer-songwriter Soobin impressed with 20 outfits in one concert, accompanied by high-end jewelry from renowned brands…

"Concert costumes are not only for aesthetics but also a 'weapon' that helps artists feel confident and convey the spirit of the song better. My team and I always carefully study each concept to choose suitable designs, especially for dance performances. For example, the material must be stretchy, safe, reflect light well, ensure aesthetics, and prioritize comfort and emotion on stage. Concerts have many performances, each with a different concept, so we always update trends and consider audience preferences. I believe that investing in professional fashion will create impressive visual moments," shared Vu Ngoc Anh, one of the 30 artists participating in the "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind" Season 2.

A strategic map is needed.

Vietnamese fashion boasts a sophisticated aesthetic and exceptionally refined tailoring skills. Many Vietnamese artists, such as My Tam, Ho Ngoc Ha, Son Tung M-TP, and Toc Tien, have collaborated with leading domestic designers like Le Thanh Hoa, Lam Gia Khang, and Ly Qui Khanh to create impressive and distinctive performance outfits. However, according to fashion experts, a well-structured strategic roadmap for concert fashion is still lacking.

"We need to move beyond the traditional 'performance costume' mindset and build a 'visual ecosystem' – where concept, technique, branding, and audience community work in sync, transforming each concert into a cohesive fashion story, meticulously planned from stage lighting and camera angles to viral effects on social media," said Travis Nguyen.

Designer Nguyen Nhu Khoi shared that many difficulties still exist: limited budgets and low pay for the production team make it difficult to achieve perfect costume quality. In addition, the habit of some young audiences preferring quick, short content on social media means that the elaborate investment in costumes is sometimes not properly appreciated.

However, according to fashion creative director Travis Nguyen, concert fashion is a "new fertile ground" for fashion professionals thanks to its endless creative space. Proper investment and preservation of identity will help Vietnamese concert fashion integrate strongly into the global music scene.
