Through the sketch of the Ca Mau shrimp symbol

(CLO) The iconic Ca Mau shrimp sculpture by artist To Minh Tan is an important component in the Phan Ngoc Hien Square construction project.

On the afternoon of March 2nd, the Art Council for the Ca Mau Shrimp Symbol project approved the 1/10 scale color palette for the preliminary design of the Ca Mau shrimp symbol project at Phan Ngoc Hien Square.

The council members evaluated and provided various opinions on the color, size, and proportion of specific details in the design process of the shrimp symbol, the calculation of load-bearing structure, and the assessment of the symbol's perspective and impact within the surrounding architectural space.

Based on these opinions, the 1/10 scale sketch of the Ca Mau shrimp symbol will be revised and supplemented to serve as the basis for implementing the Ca Mau shrimp symbol project within the Phan Ngoc Hien Square construction investment project in Ward 1, Ca Mau City.

According to assessments, the iconic Ca Mau shrimp sculpture by artist To Minh Tan is an important component in the Phan Ngoc Hien Square construction project.

The shrimp symbol is expected to be made of reinforced concrete, covered with ceramic tiles, and built right on the site of the existing Ca Mau shrimp symbol - a structure already built for the Ca Mau Shrimp Festival in 2023.

Reportedly, the Phan Ngoc Hien Square construction project has a total investment of over 236 billion VND. The construction cost for the Ca Mau shrimp symbol alone is approximately 22 billion VND.

The old Ca Mau shrimp emblem was constructed at the end of 2023, with a 2D structure mainly made of steel and plastic, at an investment of 2.8 billion VND.

The art council believes that the image of the shrimp is closely associated with the economic and cultural life of the people of Ca Mau over many generations, becoming a cultural symbol of the land and people of Ca Mau.

This time, the Ca Mau shrimp symbol is designed with a message honoring shrimp farming in Ca Mau province, a long-standing traditional occupation associated with the process of exploration, settlement, and stabilization of villages and communities of the people of Ca Mau since the time of land reclamation and expansion.

The craft of making dried shrimp in Ca Mau was also included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 10, 2023.
