The Ha Long Bay - Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board announced that from May 23rd to May 28th, they confiscated approximately 7,000 aquaculture cages, 3 bamboo rafts with a total area of about 180 m2, along with about 8 m3 of styrofoam buoys and various types of waste generated from illegal aquaculture activities in Ha Long Bay.

All cages, equipment, and waste, after being confiscated, are transported ashore for disposal or handed over to the appropriate processing unit in accordance with regulations to prevent reuse and release into the environment.
During the implementation process, the Ha Long Bay - Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board deployed personnel and specialized vehicles daily to travel through various small islands in the bay to inspect and confiscate any remaining aquaculture equipment.
Previously, the unit had repeatedly propagated and encouraged households to voluntarily dismantle their cages, recover their assets, and cease illegal aquaculture activities in the heritage area. However, after a period of persuasion, many cages and equipment remain abandoned on the water surface, posing a potential risk of environmental pollution and affecting the tourist landscape.
This operation is part of a plan to strengthen the management of aquaculture activities in Ha Long Bay after Quang Ninh province completed the relocation of aquaculture facilities that were not in accordance with planning regulations or did not meet operating conditions within the heritage area.
According to the Ha Long Bay - Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board, the seizure and thorough handling of illegal aquaculture cages and equipment contributes to protecting the ecological environment, preserving the landscape of the World Natural Heritage site, and improving the quality of tourism destinations in Ha Long Bay.
