Filip Nguyen officially completes the process of naturalizing as a Vietnamese citizen

On December 6, on the homepage of the Hanoi Police Club, through a short clip, Filip Nguyen officially announced the good news to fans, when he completed the process of naturalizing as a Vietnamese citizen. The Hanoi Police Club also sent congratulations to the goalkeeper born in 1992.

In recent years, Filip Nguyen has always expressed his desire to return home to play for the Vietnam national team. From that desire, he returned to V.League to play for the Hanoi Police Club since last June. After a long wait, and receiving help from the Hanoi Police Club and the Vietnam Football Federation, Filip Nguyen finally fulfilled his wish to become a Vietnamese citizen.

This is good news for Filip Nguyen as well as the Vietnamese team. Accordingly, coach Philippe Troussier will be able to register this goalkeeper in the preliminary list to participate in the Asian Cup finals in Qatar. Coach Troussier highly appreciates the talent of the Czech-born goalkeeper: "His performance is stable. Filip Nguyen also has experience playing in Europe. I am sure this is a quality addition to the national team."

Filip Nguyen contributed significantly to the 2023 V.League championship of Hanoi Police Club. This season, the 31-year-old goalkeeper has started 04 matches in V.League, helping his team win 02, draw 01, lose 01 and currently ranks 04th on the rankings.

According to the plan, after round 08 of V.League 2023/24, the clubs will take an early Tet holiday until February next year, making way for the Vietnam national team to gather from December 28 to prepare for the Asian Cup, taking place from January 12 to February 10, 2024 with the participation of 24 teams, divided into 06 groups.

The Vietnamese team is in Group D with Japan, Indonesia and Iraq. Coach Troussier and his team will play the opening match against the strongest team in the group, Japan, then face Indonesia and Iraq - 02 teams are also in the same group with Vietnam in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
