Prime Minister asks world's leading pharmaceutical company to transfer technology

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Gedeon Richter, a multinational pharmaceutical company in Hungary, to transfer technology to produce special and rare drugs.

On the morning of January 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the headquarters of Gedeon Richter Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Company in Budapest, during his official visit to Hungary.

Gedeon Richter is a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company with about 50 representative offices worldwide , of which the company opened an office in Vietnam since 1995. In 2021, Richter's consolidated revenue reached 1.8 billion euros (about 1.9 billion USD).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Gedeon Richter to transfer technology to produce special and rare medicines, and support Vietnam in researching pharmaceuticals based on indigenous medicinal herbs. At the same time, according to the head of the Government, Richter can step up support, exchange of experience and information, helping Vietnam improve its pharmaceutical capacity.

According to the Prime Minister, the friendship with a history of more than 70 years between Vietnam and Hungary helps many fields develop, including healthcare and pharmaceuticals.

Vietnam has issued a program to develop the domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and a national strategy for pharmaceutical development to 2030, with a vision to 2045. "Vietnam attaches great importance to the development of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, especially in the context of increasingly complex non-traditional security challenges, natural disasters, and epidemics," said the Prime Minister.

Accordingly, Vietnam will promote attracting investment in drug production and transferring production technology. At the same time, the Government is committed to creating a favorable, open and transparent business environment, helping businesses focus on innovation and development.

Gedeon Richter representative also made some suggestions and wished to continue to be facilitated to operate and do business in Vietnam.
