The working session between representatives of the Korean Education Office and the Department of Education and Training took place at Tran Phu Secondary School.
Hai Phong is a pioneer city in introducing Korean into schools as Foreign Language 1 and Foreign Language 2. Since the 2023-2024 school year, schools have been making efforts to teach Korean.
To discuss Korean language teaching in Hai Phong city; to discuss educational exchange between Gwangyang city, Jeolla Nam province (Korea) and Hai Phong city, Hai Phong Department of Education and Training had a direct working session with the Education Office of Gwangyang city, Jeolla Nam province (Korea) and the Representative Office of the Korean Education Department abroad in Vietnam.

Attending the meeting, on the Korean side were Mr. Kim Hyundong, Director of the Representative Office of the Korean Education Department in Vietnam and Ms. Kim Yeoseon, Director of the Gwangyang Education Department.
On behalf of the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong, there was Mr. Nguyen Anh Thuan, Head of the Department of Continuing Education, Vocational Training and University. Delegates of Tran Phu Secondary School included Ms. Le Thi Minh Tam, Principal, and many staff and teachers of the school.

The working session of the representative of the Korean Education Department in Hai Phong is a practical activity to contribute to connecting Korean localities with Hai Phong city and enhancing the effectiveness of Korean language teaching in high schools in the city.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Thuan, Head of the Department of Continuing Education, Vocational Training and University, Hai Phong Department of Education and Training, shared the advantages and difficulties in implementing Korean language teaching in the locality.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Thuan, Head of the Department of Continuing Education, Vocational Training and University, Hai Phong Department of Education and Training, shared that teaching Korean in schools in Hai Phong has been implemented for many years. Teaching Korean has achieved many positive results such as: students are enthusiastic about studying, highly evaluating the subject results; promoting cultural exchange between the two countries through competitions and exchanges; students have achieved many achievements in competitions. Since then, the quality of teaching and learning Korean 1 and 2 has been increasingly consolidated and promoted, meeting the standards of foreign language knowledge and skills.

Tran Phu Secondary School, Le Chan Ward is a pioneer in teaching Korean as a Foreign Language 1 from the 2023-2024 school year. Up to now, the school has 3 classes with 191 students studying Korean.
Ms. Le Thi Minh Tam, Principal of Tran Phu Secondary School, shared that from the very first days of implementing Korean language teaching, the school has received attention and direction from leaders at all levels, active support from parents and especially enthusiastic response from students.
From the first lessons of learning the alphabet, many students have now been able to confidently introduce themselves, communicate in basic situations in familiar situations, and participate in performances, poetry reading, singing, dancing and acting in Korean in extracurricular activities. The rate of students meeting subject requirements has always been maintained at a high level, in which the number of good and excellent students has increased, reflecting clear progress over each school year.

Ms. Le Thi Minh Tam, Principal of Tran Phu Secondary School, shared about the quality of Korean language teaching at the school.
In addition to academic results, students also achieved many outstanding results in competitions and exchange activities. Many students won prizes in Korean speaking competitions at school and city levels, won prizes in Korean calligraphy competitions, and many encouragement prizes in Korean language and culture festivals.
"In the coming years, we hope that the Korean language teaching program will continue to expand in scale, supplemented with more modern teaching materials and equipment. At the same time, we will organize more cultural and linguistic exchange activities, create more opportunities for students to practice and train Vietnamese Korean teachers to ensure long-term, sustainable development," said Ms. Tam.
