Preparing 5-year-old children for first grade to meet the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program in Hai Phong City.

On the morning of September 30, 2025, the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training directed the successful organization of the thematic workshop "Preparing 5-year-old children for Grade 1 to meet the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program's articulation" and assigned Sao Mai Kindergarten and Nui Deo Primary School in Thuy Nguyen Ward to coordinate in selecting teachers and preparing the content of educational activities for the city-level professional workshop.

Based on the tasks for the 2025-2026 school year set by the Ministry of Education and Training , the Department of Education and Training issued Plan No. 6586/KH-SGDĐT on September 16, 2025, regarding the organization of a city-level professional workshop. The purpose is to continue implementing the 2018 General Education Program effectively, as well as carrying out the digital transformation tasks in the education sector. Furthermore, through the workshop " Preparing 5-year-old children for Grade 1 to meet the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program," the aim is to promote effective communication among all management staff, teachers of preschool and primary schools, and all parents in the city with the motto "Accompanying your child - No pre-learning, learning correctly," contributing to raising parents' awareness of preparing their children for Grade 1 in the right, scientific , and appropriate way according to the education program. Preschool education helps children develop comprehensively, harmoniously, and in accordance with their age and psychological development, without creating pressure on both parents and students. This is also an activity in the series of activities directed by the Department of Preschool and Primary Education on implementing the "Accompanying Your Child - No Pre-learning, Right Learning" model.

Attending and directing the workshop were Ms. Hoang Thi Dinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Preschool Education, and other specialists from the Department of Preschool Education, Ministry of Education and Training; expert speaker Phan Ho Diep, lecturer from the Faculty of Special Education, Hanoi Pedagogical University, who advised on preparing children psychologically, skillfully, and emotionally before entering first grade; Mr. Vu Tri Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training; Ms. Phi Thi Thuy Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training; leaders and specialists from the Primary Education Department, Department of Education and Training; representatives of local government leaders and representatives of parents in the area. The workshop, organized in a hybrid format combining in-person and online participation, attracted the attention of all management staff, preschool teachers teaching 5-year-olds, and first-grade teachers, with 1079 educational institutions participating via the K12-Online online meeting software.

At the thematic workshop, delegates and teachers attended two experiential lessons: a 5-6 year old kindergarten class on the topic of "Getting acquainted with the letters m/n" taught by Ms. Dao Thi Hong Tham from Sao Mai Kindergarten, and a 1A4 class lesson on "Mm/Nn" taught by Ms. Ngo Thi Ngoc Bich from Nui Deo Primary School, Thuy Nguyen Ward.

Through the unit's introductory report, it was shown that preschools and primary schools in Thuy Nguyen ward have been active in communication, coordinating propaganda, and implementing many creative and effective solutions to educate parents about the true nature of the first-grade curriculum and the importance of preparing children psychologically and with the necessary skills, instead of forcing them to learn the first-grade curriculum in advance. This avoids the trend of sending children to school ahead of schedule in the hope that they will be more academically successful than their peers.

The workshop also provided time for teachers representing preschool and primary education institutions to share methods, experiences, and initiatives in implementing educational activities, while also expressing concerns, difficulties, and proposing solutions for implementation in the coming period.

Mr. Vu Tri Quang, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training, emphasized that this is a major professional development event for the entire sector, helping teachers successfully implement the new general education program. It is also an opportunity for teachers to learn together, cultivate a love for the profession, and improve the professional skills of administrators and teachers at educational institutions in the city.
