Promoting summer sports tourism

Not only is Quang Ninh a place where exciting sports tournaments take place, it is also becoming an ideal destination for tourists to combine competition and exploration. Athletes and their families not only compete but also enjoy nature and experience local culture.

According to experts, sports tourism, also known as "sports tourism", is a prominent trend in Vietnam, especially in the summer. When the need for health training goes hand in hand with exploration, many people choose the "both playing and exercising" journey. Not only young people who love an active lifestyle, but also families and international tourists are excited to participate in competitions such as marathons, aquathlons, and triathlons at famous tourist destinations.

With its scenic advantages, Ha Long, Quang Ninh is becoming an attractive destination for many athletes to both compete and travel .

This trend brings a comprehensive experience: health training and cultural connection. In some localities, many combined sports competitions have been organized with good results. For example, the Moc Chau Marathon brings together thousands of athletes from 40 countries in the highland landscape. In Da Nang , the triathlon taking place in May 2025 has 3,500 athletes from 70 countries participating, turning the central coast into an international sports and tourism destination.

Quang Ninh stands out with its diverse terrain and many beautiful landscapes, and has taken advantage of this to organize many large-scale events. Last April, Aqua Warriors Halong Bay 2025 impressed with its swimming, cycling, and running races through the beautiful roads along Ha Long Bay. At the same time, the Yen Tu mountain climbing race attracted more than 2,000 athletes from nearly 30 provinces and cities. They not only conquered the road to Hoa Yen Pagoda and Dong Pagoda but also enjoyed the fresh air in the land of Buddha.

"It was fun to conquer the running track and explore Yen Tu at the same time. Next time, I will invite more friends and family to join the running and travel" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Gam, a tourist from Hanoi, shared.

Early this June, Ha Long continued to welcome thousands of athletes to participate in the VnExpress Marathon 2025. They not only competed but also combined their vacation with their families, contributing to increasing accommodation and consumption in the locality. Similarly, in the third quarter, Van Don district will organize the Aqua Warriors Van Don 2025 - competing in two events: swimming and running amidst pristine island nature.

Hon Gai beach on the shore of Ha Long Bay heritage is a location where many units organize activities and sports events for athletes and tourists.

This promises to be a highlight to promote outdoor tourism in the area. In November, Halong Bay Heritage Marathon - one of the 50 most beautiful running routes in the world, will return. Not only is it a sporting event, it is also a large-scale cultural and tourism festival, attracting a large number of international athletes.

In addition, Quang Ninh also organizes many diverse sports events in the summer and the third quarter of 2025. In June, the World Grandmaster Chess Tournament will take place at the Planning Palace, the Provincial Fair and Exhibition with the participation of international players. At the same time, Dong Trieu City organizes the Cuong Anh Cup Sports Dance Tournament, gathering clubs nationwide to compete in 3 categories: ensemble, Latin, and Standard.

In Ha Long, the third quarter was exciting with the Quang Ninh Open Sports Dance Tournament, from Zumba, Shuffle Dance to Hiphop, Yoga; the National U23 Fencing Championship; the Quang Ninh Open Club Badminton Tournament; and the provincial Open Chess and Chinese Chess tournaments, gathering many promising young athletes.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, shared: In addition to expertise, sports tournaments help promote tourism and landscapes of the province. Organizing tournaments well is a very effective channel to introduce promotional images and promote tourism.

Athletes conquered the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon 2024 race course, and then traveled with friends and family to explore the beautiful local scenery.

According to the assessment, sports tourism brings dual benefits: It both improves health and boosts the local economy thanks to increased visitor numbers, longer stays and higher spending. More importantly, this is an opportunity for Quang Ninh to introduce its image, culture and people to the world in a dynamic, positive and sustainable way.

With the trend of preferring to experience nature, exercise and connection, sports tourism will continue to be the spearhead for Quang Ninh to develop high-quality tourism with unique products.
