(To Quoc) - Within the framework of the official visit to Singapore of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, on the morning of March 13, at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong had a working session with the Board of Directors of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
Attending the meeting were Ms. Ngo Phuong Ly - Wife of General Secretary To Lam; Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Wife of Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh and music lecturers from the Vietnam National Academy of Music and Yong Sew Toh Conservatory of Music.
Welcoming Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly and the delegation to visit the Conservatory, Mr. Peter Tornquist - Principal and the Conservatory's Board of Directors introduced the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), established in 2003, under the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Known as one of Asia's leading music academies, the Conservatory offers Bachelor's to Master's degree programs in Music, including majors such as Performance, Composition, Sound Arts & Sciences , and Conducting.
Principal of the Conservatory of Music Yong Siew Toh was pleased to share about some Vietnamese students and alumni who have studied and are studying at the Conservatory of Music. He highly appreciated the talents and qualities of Vietnamese students and expressed his desire to cooperate more deeply with Vietnam in training talents in the field of music.
At the meeting, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the state management agency for the arts, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong shared that culture and arts are areas that the Party and State of Vietnam pay attention to, issuing many policies, programs and projects to preserve and develop the country's cultural and artistic values, exchange and absorb the quintessence of human culture and train high-quality human resources.
These include the Project on Training Talents in the Field of Culture and Arts for the 2016-2025 period, with a vision to 2030, and the Project on Training and Fostering Human Resources in Culture and Arts Abroad to 2030, which have been approved by the Prime Minister with the aim of supplementing and developing a team of lecturers, teachers, researchers, experts, artists, and high-quality human resources, the core for the country's cultural and artistic training, research and performance.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong and Principal Peter Tornquist expressed their delight at the many academic exchanges, artist and lecturer exchanges being carried out regularly between Vietnam and Singapore, especially with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong highly appreciated the Vietnam National Academy of Music for proactively coordinating with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music to sign a Cooperation Agreement between the two units, which serves as a basis for the Academy and the Conservatory to carry out effective and practical activities. The Deputy Minister hopes that in the coming time, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music will pay attention to expanding cooperation with other music training units in Vietnam.
At the meeting, witnessed by Madam Ngo Phuong Ly and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, the Vietnam National Academy of Music and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand and promote professional exchange cooperation projects in the coming period.
According to the signed content, cooperation between the two units will be carried out through diverse methods, exchanging lecturers and performing students; participating in joint research activities, seminars; exchanging scientific and educational documents as well as training programs and music publications.
Speaking at the event, Madam Ngo Phuong Ly expressed her deep impression of the extremely successful performance of artists from both countries on the evening of March 12 at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and congratulated the two Conservatories for their continuous efforts in promoting music education and artistic exchange between the two countries.
Recognizing that music is not only an art form but also a bridge between the souls and cultures of peoples around the world, the Lady said that Vietnam and Singapore have a long history and rich culture, and cooperation in music training and performance will open up opportunities for the two cultures of Vietnam and Singapore to develop together and share artistic quintessence.
Madam Ngo Phuong Ly hopes that the cooperation between the two signed units will soon become practical and effective, and affirms that she will continue to support and encourage the promotion of musical cooperation between the two sides in the coming time.
The bilateral working session and signing of cooperation documents between the two leading music training institutions of Vietnam and Singapore contributed to the overall success of the official visit to Singapore by General Secretary To Lam and his wife and promised to develop to new heights the good traditional relationship between the two countries in general and in the field of music in particular.
