Promoting intellectual property and innovation cooperation with WIPO

On September 25-26, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang will visit and work in Vietnam at the invitation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, aiming to expand cooperation in the field of intellectual property and innovation.

The focus of the visit was a meeting between the Minister of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Director General of WIPO.

The two sides will discuss world trends in intellectual property (IP) and innovation (I&T), major orientations of the Ministry of Science and Technology on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation (DT), and discuss a number of proposals to promote IP and I&T activities in Vietnam in the coming time.

Under the witness of the Minister of Science and Technology, the National Office of Intellectual Property and WIPO will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of intellectual property, an agreement covering all areas of cooperation on intellectual property, from building policies and laws on intellectual property to raising awareness, training human resources, supporting businesses and improving capacity for the National Intellectual Property Office.

This Memorandum of Understanding will open a new chapter of cooperation between Vietnam and WIPO in the field of intellectual property, especially in the world trend of shifting from protection to commercialization of intellectual property rights, while also affirming the guiding and leading role of the Ministry of Science and Technology in the field of intellectual property in the new period.

During the visit, the WIPO Director General will attend the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 Introduction Workshop. The workshop will provide the latest information on the GII 2025 Report and Vietnam's results, methodological adjustments, the significance of the index, innovation trends and Vietnam's innovation prospects in the coming years.

An important highlight of the program is the visit and working session of the WIPO Director General with the leaders and staff of the Intellectual Property Office. At the working session, the Intellectual Property Office will share some outstanding achievements in cooperation with WIPO in the past time and development orientation for the coming period.

At the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, the Director General of WIPO will interact and discuss with the young generation of Vietnam with the topic: "WIPO and the journey of creating an intellectual property ecosystem to promote innovation for the young generation of Vietnam".

In the same series of events, WIPO and Ministry of Science and Technology leaders will witness the launching ceremony of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Cooperation Alliance with cooperation contents such as: "Localizing" WIPO's elearning training program and widely deploying it in Vietnam; Organizing WIPO Summer School in Vietnam every year; Building and developing brands, Managing intangible assets, Finance/valuation of intellectual property; inviting businesses in Vietnam's startup ecosystem to participate; Visiting the exhibition space of innovative products of the young generation of Vietnam.

In addition, within the framework of the visit, the WIPO Director General will have a courtesy meeting with Government leaders and a number of relevant ministries and branches to promote bilateral cooperation on IP with the ministries and branches in particular and cooperative relations with Vietnam in general.
