Recently, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung - Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee had a meeting and worked with Mr. Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung thanked the Ambassador for taking the time to inspect and work with the city's leaders. At the same time, the Chairman of the City People's Committee also introduced an overview of Hai Phong's socio-economic situation to the Ambassador.
Hai Phong City ranks 3rd in the country with many advantages for development in transportation and seaports. Hai Phong's annual GRDP index fluctuates from 10 - 13%, always in the top of the country. Currently, the FDI capital in the city has reached 30 billion USD, mainly from Japan, Korea and Asian countries, foreign investors in the city all benefit from preferential policies.
In terms of seaports, Hai Phong has put a number of deep-water seaports into operation and is investing in the export of goods. In addition, the city also wants to develop tourism infrastructure, especially in Cat Ba archipelago - a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Ha Long Bay.
On behalf of the UAE delegation, Mr. Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi acknowledged the great strides made between Vietnam and the UAE in recent years and wished to promote the relationship between the two countries. The Ambassador assessed that Hai Phong City has great potential for investment and future cooperation in the fields of logistics, oil and gas, seaports and tourism. The Ambassador said that he would strengthen connections with UAE units on a number of projects in the city, especially projects on free trade zones and renewable energy.
The Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee suggested that the Ambassador strengthen connections, promote cooperation between the two countries, promote the image of Hai Phong City so that UAE businesses, investors, and localities can come to learn and survey the investment environment in areas where both sides have strengths such as logistics, energy, finance, banking, infrastructure construction, real estate, transportation, agriculture, and goods export, etc.
Vietnam is currently among the top 5 largest economies in ASEAN, one of the top 20 economies in international trade and has been listed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development as one of the top 20 countries attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the world. Meanwhile, the UAE is considered a leading economic, commercial, financial, tourism and logistics center in the Middle East and the world.
In recent times, the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE have seen many positive developments. The UAE is Vietnam's leading trade partner in the Middle East - Africa region with a bilateral turnover of 4.7 billion USD in 2023. As of August 2023, the UAE ranked 45th out of 148 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with a total of 38 projects and a total registered capital of over 71 million USD. In contrast, Vietnam has 05 valid investment projects from the UAE with a total registered capital of over 1.8 million USD. The two countries are currently negotiating the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
