At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that after more than 35 years of companionship and cooperation, the Vietnam-EU relationship continues to be stable and constantly developing strongly. The Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), implemented in recent years, has made a significant contribution to bringing trade cooperation between the two sides to a new level.

In particular, the two sides upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in January 2026, making Vietnam the first ASEAN country to establish the highest level of relations with the EU. The EU is also Vietnam's fourth largest trading partner and fifth largest investor in the world. “Vietnam attaches special importance to the strategic role and position of the EU – the world's third largest economy and a pioneer in promoting sustainable development, green transition, circular economy, digital transformation, just energy transition, and free trade,” the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly stated that Vietnam always focuses on improving institutions, creating a comprehensive, transparent, and development-oriented legal environment, and building policies to support domestic and foreign businesses, including European businesses in Vietnam.

To effectively implement the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the EU, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly requested the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam and the President of EuroCham to promote visits by European and Vietnamese business delegations to explore and seize opportunities for investment and business cooperation, contributing to deepening and enhancing economic and trade relations between Vietnam and the EU, in conjunction with the effective implementation of the EVFTA, and contributing to consolidating and maintaining each other's position as leading trading partners.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly proposed continuing to urge the parliaments of the remaining six EU member states to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), contributing to a comprehensive breakthrough in Vietnam-EU investment cooperation, similar to the impressive results after the implementation of the EVFTA; and requested the European Commission (EC) to soon lift the IUU "yellow card" on Vietnamese seafood exports, based on acknowledging Vietnam's efforts in combating IUU fishing.

EuroCham President Bruno Jaspaert noted that Vietnam has made significant efforts and progress in institutional reform, ensuring an attractive legal environment for investors and businesses, contributing to improving the business environment in Vietnam.

Mr. Bruno Jaspaert expressed his hope to continue receiving the support and cooperation from the Government, the National Assembly, and relevant authorities in Vietnam for the European business community.

EuroCham hopes that the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will translate into concrete cooperation opportunities between the two sides; and affirms that the EU can support Vietnam with capital and technology to help Vietnam achieve its goals of rapid and sustainable growth. In particular, with the EU's "Global Gateway Strategy" initiative, the EU is ready to invest in infrastructure, smart connectivity, green transformation, and the circular economy.
