Previously, on October 10, social networks spread information about “4 white monkeys” appearing on Ma Thien Lanh mountain, attracting much attention. The An Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department has stepped in to inspect and verify to serve the management and protection of endangered and rare wild animals.

On October 14, officers from the An Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department and local authorities installed three camera traps in the area where four white monkeys were previously recorded at Ong Rong Peak (Group 1, Bai Bac Hamlet, Kien Hai Special Zone). At the same time, authorities spread plaster powder around the area to record traces for species identification.
On the morning of October 16, the camera recorded images of two animals, identified as white-haired dogs, raised by local people. Then, on the morning of October 17, the device continued to record two more similar white-haired dogs at the top of Ong Rong Mountain.
The individuals recorded above are dogs owned by the islanders. No monkeys have been discovered as previously reported.
To avoid misunderstandings, the An Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department continues to maintain monitoring and coordinates with local authorities to widely disseminate verification results to people and agencies and organizations in Hon Son. At the same time, it recommends that people do not share unverified information to avoid causing panic and affecting wildlife management and protection.
