WHITE NIGHT WAITING FOR THE STREET PARADE

According to the reporter, from 4 am today, May 7, thousands of people were already waiting at the intersections where the parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory would pass. At the intersection of Vo Nguyen Giap and Hoang Van Thai streets, all the sidewalks along the road were crowded with people.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa, 60 years old, is from Dien Bien province but has been a bride in Son La for several decades. As the anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory approaches, she and her family and friends decided to return to witness the parade through the streets of the city.

Sitting on the sidewalk which was already packed with people at 5am, Mrs. Hoa excitedly said: "Since last night, we have been here, spreading out mats to sleep and wait for dawn."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (left, blue shirt) said she was here since 11 pm on May 6.

Sitting nearby, Ms. Tran Thi Hang, from Thai Binh, added: "Last night, it was as fun as a festival here. Everyone told each other stories about their families and hometowns. In particular, the people of Dien Bien were extremely hospitable, bringing us candy and drinks."

On the opposite sidewalk, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, wearing a worn-out military uniform, blended into the crowd. Sharing with reporters, Mr. Binh said: His group consisted of 33 people, all of whom were veterans of the Quang Tri Citadel in Quynh Phu district, Thai Binh province. To be present for the anniversary, the whole group traveled all night.

"We arrived here at 3am. No one could sleep because of excitement, so we decided to 'station' here," the 71-year-old veteran said excitedly.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh said that his group of veterans from Quynh Phu, Thai Binh traveled all night to be in time to welcome the passing parade.

In the group, Ms. Hoang Thi Hoi is perhaps the most special case. Unfortunately, she suffered an injury before the trip, and the 73-year-old woman is unable to move on her own. Despite this, Ms. Hoi is still determined to go to Dien Bien in a... wheelchair, thanks to the help of her teammates.

"As a former youth volunteer, I always wanted to visit Dien Bien Phu. Therefore, this time, even though I was not feeling well, I still tried. Up to this point, after 2 hours of waiting, we were all extremely excited," Ms. Hoi said with a smile.

Mrs. Hoi (far right) was present from dawn to wait for the parade, even though she was in a wheelchair.

Present at Vo Nguyen Giap Street since 4:30 a.m., veteran Trinh Thi Quang, 66 years old, could not hide her excitement and anticipation of witnessing the parade commemorating the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory.

Ms. Quang went with a group of 45 veterans and women's association members from Phu La ward, Ha Dong district, Hanoi. Sharing about the atmosphere in Dien Bien Phu these days, especially on the morning of the big day on May 7, Ms. Quang said she clearly felt the joyful and excited atmosphere of the people and tourists.

On the first visit to the heroic land of Dien Bien Phu, she and the members of the delegation were very happy, nervous and eager. The main costume of the delegation was a T-shirt printed with the red flag with a yellow star. Sharing about the choice of this costume, Ms. Quang said that because this was an important anniversary of the nation, the delegation chose this costume to show pride in the great victory of their ancestors.

RED FLAG SEA AND SONGS

As dawn approached, more and more people flocked to the area near Dien Bien Province Stadium. On the sidewalks, a forest of red flags was also woven by the people.

Mr. Le Trung Kieu, 72 years old, walked along the side of Hoang Van Thai street, carrying a bag full of small national flags to... distribute to everyone. The veteran from Hanoi shared: He has been in Dien Bien for 4 days and "wants to contribute a little to the celebration".

"After much thought, the group decided to buy 300 small red flags with yellow stars and distribute them to the people. The flags are small, but they represent our hearts and feelings for this land." In just 5 minutes, the bag in Mr. Kieu's hand was empty. On the opposite side, the forest of flags was already flying, blending with the red shirts with yellow stars and the green shirts of soldiers...

The 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory seems to have turned into a... national festival. From distant villages, hundreds, thousands of ethnic groups from the Northwest have also flocked in. Among the sea of people waiting, they are like wild flowers dotted with their own colors and scents. There are the high white tunics of the Thai people, the bright red skirts of the Mong people. Everyone's face is radiant and expectant.

Ms. Quàng Thị Viêm, a Thai ethnic in Tin Lan village, Nua Ngam commune, Dien Bien district, along with 13 other sisters, have been in Dien Bien Phu city for nearly a week.

"We asked to stay at people's houses to wait for the parade. Since 2am this morning, we have been waking up, wearing traditional costumes and waiting here," Ms. Viem said happily.

At 5 a.m., the corner of the street next to the A1 Hill Martyrs Cemetery was packed with people. Without anyone telling them, everyone started singing: " As if Uncle Ho was here on the day of great victory."
