(Dan Tri) - More than 80% of kumquat gardens in Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city, Quang Nam have been sold to traders. These days, gardeners are busy taking care of the trees, ensuring they are beautiful before handing them over to traders.

Cam Ha Commune, Hoi An City, is considered the kumquat capital of Quang Nam Province in particular and the Central region in general. There are more than 370 households specializing in growing kumquat trees, supplying the Tet market with more than 65,000 kumquat pots of various types each year.

Only one month left until the Lunar New Year of the Snake. These days, everyone is busy pruning branches, painting pots, taking care of plants, waiting for the day when traders come to the garden to get their goods.

According to locals, every year, traders come to collect kumquats at the end of December. However, this year, the market has been bustling since very early. In early November, many people came here to buy wholesale from many kumquat gardens.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (Dong Na village) said that this year his family planted 1,000 pots of kumquat trees of various types, with large, heavy fruits.

Up to this point, he has sold more than 90% of the kumquat trees in his garden. With 1,000 kumquat pots, of which nearly 200 are large, the rest are medium and small. The selling price ranges from 500,000 VND to 2 million VND per pot, depending on the type.

"This year, traders came to see the garden quite early and placed orders since the beginning of November. The price of kumquat compared to previous years has not fluctuated much," said Mr. Thuy.

Every day, Mr. Tran Van Dong (Dong Na village) goes to the garden early to prune, water and take care of the trees. This year, Mr. Dong planted nearly 1,000 large and small kumquat pots, and so far traders have ordered all the kumquats in his family's garden.

According to Mr. Dong, this year the weather is not very favorable, the summer is dry and hot, and near Tet there is a long period of cold rain. Gardeners must always be on duty at the kumquat garden to protect the trees, and intervene with techniques to ensure the fruit is big, beautiful, and ready to serve Tet.

"The price of kumquat has not fluctuated much compared to previous years, but the prices of fertilizers, pesticides, seeds, etc. have all increased. After deducting expenses, farmers do not make much profit," Mr. Dong shared.

Cultivating kumquat trees on more than 6,000 square meters, each year Mr. Le Trung's family (Ben Tre village, Cam Ha commune) supplies the market with more than 900 kumquat pots.

For more than 20 years, Mr. Trung has been involved in the profession of growing kumquat trees for Tet. Not only has he developed his family's economy , he has also created jobs for a number of local workers when it is time to take care of kumquat trees in the garden.

In the days leading up to Tet, to meet the demand for viewing and buying kumquat trees, he hired twice as many workers as usual. He was paid 250,000-400,000 VND/person per day, depending on the level of work.

"Depending on the stage of kumquat growth, garden owners will hire workers to take care of the kumquats. I am old and have difficulty finding a stable job. Working for kumquat gardens gives me extra income to cover expenses," said Ms. Tran Thi Hong (65 years old, in Cam Ha commune).

According to the People's Committee of Cam Ha Commune, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, farmers in the commune are expected to supply more than 65,000 kumquat pots of various types to the market. Currently, more than 80% of the gardens have been ordered at stable prices, not much fluctuating compared to previous years.
