I love it so much… "Grandma Six's" bread.

(BDO) "Grandma Six's 5k bread," "Grandma Six's bread stall," "Grandma Six's bread is the cheapest in Binh Duong," "Grandma Six's bread stall, if anyone forgets to bring money, Grandma will give it to them"... These are the incredibly affectionate ways media and social networks introduce the unique bread stall of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngang, also known as "Mother Six Ngang" or "Grandma Six," who is now 90 years old.

For many years now, Grandma Sau's bread stall on the side of Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Tan An Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, has become very familiar to the locals and those who frequently pass through this area.

Every day, around 4 a.m., while the city is still asleep, under the dim yellow streetlights, early morning exercisers or night shift workers returning home find Grandma Six and her bread cart already set up at their usual spot, ready to sell to her first customers. Most of Grandma Six's customers are factory workers, motorbike taxi drivers, and freelancers.

The hot, crispy loaves of bread, filled with various ingredients like pork dumplings, vegetables, and pork sausage, were meticulously prepared by Grandma Six starting at 2 AM. Grandma Six carefully made each loaf for everyone, and didn't forget to chat and ask how they were doing, as usual. Some ate on the spot, while others quickly took them back to their rented rooms or to the office to grab a quick bite before their shift.

Grandma Six carefully prepares each loaf of bread to ensure it's delicious before it reaches the customer.

Those who buy bread from Grandma Six for the first time are always surprised that she sells loaves of bread that are as full-bodied and delicious as those in bakeries, and even perfectly suited to many people's tastes, but she only charges five thousand dong.

Many people ask why Grandma sells so cheaply, why she doesn't raise the price, how can she make a profit selling like this? Grandma Six says that this is already a price increase. During the pandemic, she only sold it for two or three thousand dong, but now she sells it to anyone who doesn't have five thousand dong, "even if they forgot to bring money, she still sells it to them, why sell it for too much? I sell it cheap so that workers and students can have breakfast before going to work or school, because if it's too expensive, it would be unfair to them..." Grandma Six said, then smiled toothlessly.

Grandma Six said she didn't want to raise prices because many people are still struggling, but the price of meat has gone up too much lately, so she had to increase it by five thousand dong. Some people bought a loaf of bread, gave ten thousand dong, and asked Grandma not to give them change, but some insisted on returning it. Others took the change and secretly put it back into Grandma's basket, while some ran off without waiting for her to give them the change.

Grandma sells her noodles cheaply to everyone, but she also politely refuses to sell too many to one person, fearing that those who arrive later might not have any left. Regular customers come to Grandma not only for a delicious breakfast, but also to share their joys and sorrows in life and work through her caring conversations. They've come to see Grandma as a familiar mother and grandmother in their family.

Many freelance workers, students, and factory workers are regular customers of Grandma Six.

Having reached a rare old age a few years ago, Grandma Six's children advised her to rest, but she said she could still work, and besides, there were still many needy people who came to buy bread every day, so how could she retire?

Hearing Grandma Six's words, the children didn't know how to advise her, so they helped her buy ingredients to prepare for her morning bread sales to help the needy. "I'm old now, so I don't need a lot of money. I just hope to have the health to continue selling bread to the needy. All I know is how to help others and contribute to society; what else can I do at this age...?" Grandma Six's words were incredibly touching.

So, amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life today, there are still humble yet noble people who quietly dedicate themselves, without ostentation, but leave a profound mark, like Grandma Six - Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngang - who silently provided heartwarming breakfasts to students, workers, and poor laborers.

From her small bread stall, Grandma Six has spread kindness and shared love, allowing compassion to flourish, multiplying and transmitting a beautiful way of life in everyday life and in the lives of each individual.
