Mr. Vo Quang Dam, General Secretary of the Provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange, visited and presented gifts to Victims of Agent Orange in Tan Phu Dong district. |
The most difficult are the families of AO victims with disabilities and deformities who cannot work like normal people, so their lives are always poor and lacking everything... In Tan Phu Dong district, there are currently 201 AO victims. Most of the families of the victims are poor and have very difficult lives, especially those with 3-4 AO victims, such as the families of victims Huynh Van Y, in Ba Lam hamlet; Nguyen Van Truong, in Bai Bun hamlet; Nguyen Phuoc Tuyen, in Giong Keo hamlet (Phu Thanh commune); Nguyen Hoa Tuong Huy, Tran Thi Truc Linh, both in Phu Huu hamlet (Phu Tan commune). These are families of AO victims who are in very difficult circumstances, suffering from illness day and night, unable to work, so their lives are always lacking, they really need kind hearts, golden hearts to come to them to support, help, and encourage them to overcome their unfortunate fate.
In the mobilization work, the Association at all levels regularly creates close relationships with agencies, units, charitable social organizations, and benefactors inside and outside the province to mobilize resources to help AO victims. The mobilization often focuses on appropriate and meaningful times such as: Lunar New Year, Day for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims (August 10), Vu Lan Festival, and major full moon days of the year.
After 10 years of implementing Directive 43 of the Secretariat on "Strengthening the Party's leadership in dealing with the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam", the Association at all levels in Tan Phu Dong has mobilized a total amount of over 7 billion VND.
With the above amount, the Association organized to build “Agent Orange Shelter” houses for families facing housing difficulties; organized free medical examinations and medicine for elderly and seriously ill victims; awarded scholarships to poor but studious children of victims and provided interest-free production capital to families of victims with conditions to have more income and stabilize their daily lives.
At the same time, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tan Phu Dong district also mobilized philanthropists to help many young Agent Orange victims to overcome difficulties, persevere in studying well to have a career, take care of themselves and help their families.
Typical examples include Dao Le Ngoc Tram, born in 2003, in Tan Thanh hamlet, Tan Phu commune, a student at Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City, or Pham Nhat Hao, born in 2004, in Tan Xuan hamlet, Tan Phu commune, a student at Can Tho University of Education... Each of them has the same difficult circumstances, they all have different diseases caused by Agent Orange, but they all have the will and determination to overcome difficulties and rise up, not accepting their fate.
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Tien, President of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Tan Phu Dong district, said that in the coming time, the key tasks of the Association will be: Continuing to widely propagate Directive 43 of the Secretariat, continuing to coordinate with local sectors, organizations, and benefactors to visit, give gifts, and support seriously ill and poor victims of Agent Orange; organizing medical examination and treatment groups for elderly victims, victims with disabilities, and victims with serious illnesses who have difficulty traveling; combining with the Association for Promotion of Education to award scholarships to victims who are studious students who have overcome difficulties to study well.
