The Swiss Medicines Agency (Swissmedic) announced the discovery of 230 batches of counterfeit and smuggled drugs.
More than half of the drugs listed above come from Asia and Eastern European countries, including many sedatives.
The raids were part of the annual Pangea XVI week of action against the illicit online drug trade, which involved 89 countries. In total, the international operation resulted in the seizure of approximately $7 million worth of counterfeit and illicit drugs. In addition, 1,300 websites were shut down.
This year, Swissmedic focused on companies selling pharmaceuticals online. Through a selective analysis of websites and social media posts, the authorities found that traffickers were trying to mislead legitimate Swiss websites, even if these addresses had nothing to do with pharmaceuticals.
