Samsung has just announced its financial report for the second quarter of 2025 with a challenging business situation. Although overall performance declined, some key business segments still showed stability.
The South Korean conglomerate recorded revenue of 74.6 trillion won (about 53.5 billion USD ). However, operating profit was only 4.7 trillion won ( 3.37 billion USD ), down sharply by 55% compared to the previous quarter and almost equal to the same period last year.
Samsung said the main reason for this decline was due to the chip business facing many difficulties in the last quarter.
Specifically, Samsung's semiconductor business only brought in 400 billion won ( 287 million USD ) in profit, a sharp decrease compared to 6,500 billion won ( 4.6 million USD ) in the same period last year.
The main reason is believed to be delays in the delivery of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to Nvidia. Tighter US export regulations also affected chip sales to the Chinese market.
Despite rising demand from AI and cloud companies, Samsung has yet to fully capitalize on the opportunity like competitors like SK Hynix and Micron.
However, Samsung also showed signs of optimism. The company expects its business situation to improve in the second half of this year thanks to strong demand for AI from technology giants such as Meta and Microsoft.
Additionally, a new trade deal between the US and South Korea, which imposes a 15% tariff on chips, is expected to bring more stability to the market.

Samsung is also betting big on its foundry business, with a $16.5 billion order from electric carmaker Tesla, which is expected to produce chips at its Texas plant starting in 2026.
At the press conference, Daniel Araujo, Vice President of Samsung's Mobile Experience Group, revealed that the Galaxy S25 FE will be released earlier than expected. According to Android Authority, the device could be released in August or early September this year.
Looking ahead, Samsung is focusing on cutting-edge chip technology to close the gap with its rivals in the AI field. Specifically, the company is developing HBM-3E and HBM-4 memory, which are key components to maintain a competitive edge in the AI chip race.
Samsung’s mobile division also had a solid quarter, bringing in about $2.23 billion in profit, up nearly 40% from last year’s $1.6 billion . The growth was driven by strong sales across its entire product line, including phones, laptops, smartwatches, tablets, and even smart rings.
Despite the semiconductor challenges in the second quarter, Samsung maintained stability thanks to the performance of its mobile and electronics businesses. The company is counting on AI and new partnerships to drive growth in the second half of 2025.
