Vietnamese PhD introduces AI model to solve international math Olympiad
Last week, Vietnamese PhD student Trinh Hoang Trieu successfully defended his doctoral thesis on the topic of AI problem solving at New York University.
The research, with contributions from two scientists at Google DeepMind, Dr. Le Viet Quoc and Luong Thang, was published in the journal Nature.
With a set of 30 Olympic geometry problems from 2000 to 2022, AlphaGeometry solved 25 problems, compared to the average score of gold medalists of 25.9, far surpassing 10 problems of computer math systems developed in the 1970s.
According to Michael Barany, a historian of mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, the AlphaGeometry study “is a milestone in the ability to reason automatically at the human level.”
Vietnamese users lost 17.3 trillion VND due to computer viruses
Results from the cybersecurity assessment program for individual users conducted by Bkav in December 2023 showed that the damage caused by computer viruses to Vietnamese users was VND 17.3 trillion (equivalent to USD 716 million).
This is the second consecutive year that the number of damages caused by computer viruses to Vietnamese users has decreased.
Bkav's virus monitoring and warning system recorded that in 2023, up to 745,000 computers were infected with account-stealing viruses (Facebook, banks), an increase of about 40% compared to 2022.
Among them, the most spreading strains include RedLineStealer, ArkeiStealer, Fabookie... all of which are in the top 20 most contagious virus strains in Vietnam.
Statistics also show that in 2023, Vietnam had 19,000 servers compromised by data encryption viruses, an increase of 35% compared to last year.
In addition to viruses, experts say spam bank accounts are also the cause of cybersecurity breaches.
Specifically, after sending messages and making fraudulent calls, the bad guys often ask the victims to transfer money via bank. However, these are often spam accounts, not the owner's, making it difficult for authorities to trace.
