Continuing the tradition of "Great Wind"

Prosperity from large model fields

More than half a century has passed, but the profound lessons from the "Gio Dai Phong" movement and the spirit of emulation in labor production of Dai Phong Cooperative (Phong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, former Quang Binh province) still retain their value.

If in those days, with the aim of "pushing back hunger and poverty", Dai Phong Cooperative had the policy of "one person doing the work of two", focusing on reclaiming land, creating hundreds of acres of rice fields, then today many cooperatives in the province have promoted that spirit, focusing on accumulating land, building large-scale fields for production, bringing a prosperous life to members.

Located in the border area, Thuy Ba Tay Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative (Vinh Thuy Commune) has more than 300 members. Up to now, the Cooperative has 600 hectares of production land, of which 120 hectares of land for two-crop rice cultivation, 30 hectares of specialized land, 18 hectares of aquaculture land, 325 hectares of rubber land, and 155 hectares of forest land. In particular, with 120 hectares of land for two-crop rice cultivation, in recent years, Thuy Ba Tay Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative has implemented the construction of large fields of high-quality rice in the direction of commodity production.

Accordingly, the Cooperative has planned to build two large fields, including a 26-hectare area specializing in producing high-quality organic rice and a 27-hectare area specializing in producing rice seeds for Quang Tri Seed Company. On the other hand, the Cooperative has focused on applying science and technology in production, contributing to improving the productivity and quality of rice, thereby improving the efficiency of the cultivated area.

Village 3-My Trach (Bac Trach commune) is a purely agricultural area, however the agricultural area is quite fragmented. With the desire to get rich from rice grains and agricultural products on her homeland's land, in 2019, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan (born in 1977) established the Xuan Hung Cooperative for the production and trading of clean mushrooms and wine (Xuan Hung Cooperative).

When it came into operation, Xuan Hung Cooperative expanded its field of production, processing and consumption of rice. Initially, with an area of 1 hectare, the Cooperative implemented an organic rice production model, creating safe rice products for sale to the market. From here, the brand "Ms. Xuan's rice" became known to many consumers.

To expand production, the Cooperative continues to sign contracts to supply seeds, organic fertilizers, provide training on intensive farming techniques, produce organic rice and purchase products for farmers in the region. Up to now, Xuan Hung Cooperative has cooperated with 250 households, built large model fields with a total area of over 35 hectares to produce rice in an organic direction. In particular, to increase the value and brand of the products, the Cooperative has introduced the high-quality ST25 rice variety into production.

Accordingly, from the beginning of the season, the Cooperative will supply farmers with seeds and fertilizers, and at the same time guide production households to follow the organic rice production process. At the end of the season, the Cooperative will purchase the entire output and process it into the product "ST25 Xuan Hung Specialty Rice" to supply to markets in and outside the province.

Mr. Cao Viet Ngan, a farmer associated with Xuan Hung Cooperative, said that people participating in the chain were very happy because they were supported with agricultural materials and had all their products purchased at prices 2 times higher than the market price. In addition, the Cooperative also actively supported production techniques, so in many past crops, rice yields have reached over 60 quintals/ha. Participating in the chain, farmers have an average profit of over 30 million/ha/crop.

Bringing local "specialties" far and wide

Along with land accumulation and construction of large-scale fields, many cooperatives in the province also apply high technology to production; purchase and process local agricultural products into "specialty" products, contributing to increasing value for farmers and cooperative members.

Over the past years, the Vuong Doan Seafood Production, Trading and Processing Cooperative (Vuong Doan Cooperative) directed by Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan (Cua Thon village - Hai Ninh, Ninh Chau commune) has applied high technology to production, increasing the value of aquatic and seafood products for fishermen; at the same time contributing to bringing the local "specialty" to the market.

According to Ms. Doan, the locality has abundant and fresh aquatic and seafood resources, but it is difficult to sell them because traders buy less and lower prices. This makes her always think of ways to help fishermen. In 2018, Ms. Doan decided to borrow capital to establish Vuong Doan Cooperative to purchase, process and sell products for fishermen in the area.

In the patriotic emulation movement for the period of 2020-2025, many typical cooperatives have appeared in the province, contributing to affirming the position and role of the collective economy and cooperatives in the socio-economic development of the province. Typical examples include: Quang Thuy wooden chopsticks production and trade cooperative; Tuan Linh clean mushroom and agricultural business cooperative; Thong Nhat An Ninh agricultural production and service business cooperative; Thuong Phong agricultural production and service business cooperative; Thuy Ba Tay agricultural production and service business cooperative; Khe Sanh agricultural products cooperative; Vuong Doan seafood production, trading and processing cooperative; Xuan Phong cooperative... These are the new "Great Winds" on the heroic land of Quang Tri.

Up to now, on average, each year, Vuong Doan Cooperative produces, trades, and processes over 200 tons of dried seafood and over 100 tons of fresh seafood. The Cooperative currently has 2 products with 3-star OCOP certification, which are shredded dried squid and dried shrimp, and 1 product with 4-star OCOP certification, which is white-banded fish, exported to markets in Laos, Thailand, and China. In 2024, Vuong Doan Cooperative was selected by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union to be recognized as a typical cooperative nationwide...

Ms. Dinh Thi Quynh Hoa, Chairwoman of the Provincial Cooperative Union, said: In recent years, the patriotic emulation movement has always been actively responded to by cooperatives and People's Credit Funds (members of the Provincial Cooperative Union). The units always promote the "Great Wind" spirit of the homeland in the past to spread the movement, share many good models, creative ways of doing things, affirm the core role in developing the collective economy, building new rural areas, sustainable poverty reduction and ensuring social security, contributing to promoting the development of the homeland and the country.
