Speaking with a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper on April 26, Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, representative of TikTok Vietnam, confirmed that not only compilation and summary videos of trending new movies but also copyrighted older films are potentially subject to penalties from the platform if they violate copyright.
Recently, there has been a surge in social media accounts reviewing movies, both new and old, causing users to no longer want to pay to watch copyrighted films, thus affecting the revenue of film owners.
However, Mr. Thanh also stated that TikTok only handles copyrighted videos upon request from the content owner, and the processing time is 48 hours.

Movie review accounts on TikTok have a large following.
According to Mr. Thanh, TikTok currently officially collaborates with most film producers in Vietnam to promote new films. However, in addition to official information, there is also user-generated content, some of which may infringe on copyright.
On April 26th, TikTok's new intellectual property policy came into effect with several notable provisions. Accordingly, TikTok is implementing a reasonable policy against repeated intellectual property infringement. In some cases, the platform will ban the accounts of users who repeatedly violate copyright. TikTok can make the decision to ban any account immediately in cases of serious copyright infringement.
However, TikTok advises copyright holders to contact them directly to resolve the issue if they discover copyright infringement. Additionally, copyright holders can submit a copyright infringement report to request the removal of the allegedly infringing content from TikTok via the available form.
"To help us evaluate the report, users need to provide all the information requested in TikTok's online Copyright Infringement Report form. We may contact the submitter if we have questions about the report. If the submitter does not provide the necessary information, TikTok cannot investigate the complaint and the report will be rejected," TikTok's policy states.
Some copyright principles on TikTok to note: The platform does not allow the posting of any copyrighted content; TikTok users are responsible for the content they post; TikTok does not have the authority to resolve disputes between parties but only provides users and copyright owners with a mechanism to resolve intellectual property infringement disputes.
