TikTok's rise in video length was initially fueled by its short-form format, with a maximum video length of 15 seconds. The platform gradually increased the maximum video length, first to 1 minute, then 3 minutes, and then 10 minutes. Last October, TikTok began testing a 15-minute video upload limit.
In its latest move, TikTok, the world's most popular short-form video platform, has tested the ability to upload 30-minute videos. This signals a significant shift away from its original short-form video format. The news comes from social media consultant Matt Navarra, who recently discovered that TikTok is testing the ability to upload videos up to 30 minutes long.
According to Matt Navarra’s screenshot, it looks like users will encounter a pop-up when they upload a video, informing them of the new maximum length. The pop-up will say “Introducing 30-minute videos – You can now upload videos up to 30 minutes long!”.

Navarra also mentioned that the 30-minute video upload feature is not exclusive to iOS, it will likely be rolled out to all users soon, including Android users.
With this information, it can be seen that TikTok's intention is clear, 30-minute videos will attract more creators who like in-depth content to TikTok, and bring richer works, through which they can also share more content on the TikTok platform, without having to divide episodes into multiple parts. This move can also be a premise to insert ads in the beginning and middle of the video, helping creators earn more revenue from advertising.
Of course, such changes are not without concern, as many TikTok users still prefer short entertainment content, so 30-minute videos may make viewers reconsider their approach to choosing.
