Another Chinese rescue team from Yunnan province also rescued a survivor in the capital Naypyidaw, which was also severely affected by the earthquake, on the morning of March 30.

According to AFP, as of March 31, hopes of finding more survivors under the rubble in the city of Mandalay, central Myanmar, are fading amid difficult conditions, with temperatures expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius.

Here some residents are spending a third night sleeping outdoors after a devastating earthquake killed at least 1,700 people in Myanmar.

The sweltering heat has exhausted rescue workers and accelerated the decomposition of some bodies, which could make identification difficult.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck early in the afternoon of March 28 in the northwest of Sagaing City, central Myanmar. Just minutes later, a 6.7-magnitude aftershock continued to shake the area.

The earthquake flattened homes, collapsed bridges and cracked roads across Myanmar. Mandalay - the country's second-largest city with more than 1.7 million people - was among the hardest hit.
