Dong Thap province is planning 4 port areas.

(ABO) From July 1, 2025, Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces will merge into the new Dong Thap province. Based on the decision approving the detailed planning for the development of land and seaport areas for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, recently issued by the Ministry of Construction, Dong Thap province is newly planned to have 4 port areas including 12 wharfs with the goal to 2030.

Specifically, Go Cong Port Area has a cargo output of 4.5 - 5.9 million tons; passengers from 49.6 - 56.3 thousand passengers. Go Cong Port Area has a total of 5 ports including 12 - 13 wharves, total length from 1,945 - 2,245 km as follows: Go Cong General Port; Soai Rap Nam Hau Petro Oil and Gas Depot Port; Soai Rap - Hiep Phuoc Oil and Gas Depot Port; Port serving DKC Tien Giang oil and gas depot; Binh Dong Port. In particular, at Go Cong General Port, investment will be studied for a general, container, and bulk cargo wharf with a length of 300 m, receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 70,000 tons or larger, suitable for the operating conditions of the shipping route and the ability to invest in infrastructure of auxiliary works, connecting to the port. At other ports in the area, wharves will be designed to serve specific requirements such as liquid and gas wharves; container wharves, bulk cargo wharves, etc.

My Tho port area has a cargo output of 0.58 - 0.65 million tons. My Tho port area has 1 port including 3 general, container, bulk, liquid/gas wharfs with a total length of 220 m.

The port area on Tien River has a cargo capacity of 1.6 - 1.9 million tons. The port area on Tien River has a total of 5 ports including 7 wharves, total length of 566 m as follows: Dong Thap Port; Dong Thap Petroleum Port; Sa Dec Port; Thuong Phuoc 1 Port; Thuong Phuoc 2 Port. These ports receive ships with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons.

Lap Vo wharf area (on Hau River) has a cargo capacity of 0.4 million tons. The wharf area has 1 port including 1 - 2 wharves with a total length of 200 - 350 m. Lap Vo port receives ships with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons.

It is expected that the capital investment demand for the port system by 2030 will be about more than 5,000 billion VND, including investment capital for public maritime infrastructure and investment capital demand for ports.
