On the afternoon of April 4, the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - Government Committee - Lao Front Committee for National Construction of Sekong province solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the province's founding (April 14, 1984 - April 14, 2024). Prime Minister of the Lao PDR Sonexay Siphandone and representatives of ministries and branches of the Lao PDR attended. The delegation of leaders of Quang Nam province included comrades Luong Nguyen Minh Triet - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Tran Xuan Vinh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Hong Quang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Major General Nguyen Duc Dung - Director of the Provincial Police.

Sekong is a province in the Southeast of the Lao PDR, separated from Saravan province on April 14, 1984. At the time of its establishment, Sekong had mountainous terrain, no infrastructure, and people's lives faced many difficulties. However, with the revolutionary tradition and the people's spirit of overcoming difficulties, over the past 40 years, Sekong's appearance has changed greatly. Budget revenue has increased gradually every year, from only 40 million kip in 1984 to 300.83 billion kip in 2023.

Infrastructure has been improved and newly invested in, especially the transportation system and electricity have been invested in remote areas. People's lives have improved significantly, poverty has been resolved. Preserving and promoting the good traditional cultural values ​​of the tribes has been emphasized.

The province currently has 533 party cells with 477 party units, 56 party committees; there are 9,788 party members, including 2,412 female party members, a dozens-fold increase compared to the number of 163 party members in 1984. Notably, in terms of foreign affairs, Sekong has had special cooperation with Quang Nam - Da Nang province since 1984 and Quang Nam province since 1997. And over the past 40 years, the province has received funding and support for hundreds of projects, with a total value of tens of billions of VND from provinces in Vietnam.

Comrade Lech-lay Sí-vi-lay – Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary, Governor of Sekong Province said: “To achieve this result, the people of all ethnic groups have united, agreed with the policies of our Party and State and well implemented the socio -economic development and poverty reduction plans. Continuing the tradition of 40 years of establishment, the Party Committee, government and people need to strengthen the spirit of solidarity and unity, promote patriotism, transform policies and guidelines into new missions and enhance the increasingly strong people's democracy. Thereby creating achievements, victories and opening up new growth opportunities and fundamental poverty reduction, towards comprehensive development.”

At the ceremony, Prime Minister of Lao PDR Sonexay Siphandone directed many important and suggestive contents, creating the premise for Sekong to continue its growth momentum and breakthrough in the coming time. At the same time, he presented a certificate of merit to congratulate the achievements in 40 years of establishment and development of Sekong province.
