On the afternoon of November 14, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court announced the appeal verdict on the case of "property loan contract dispute and dispute over compensation for non-contractual damages" between the plaintiff, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang (36 years old, living in Lam Dong) and the defendant, Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien (25 years old, Miss Grand International 2021).
The appeal hearing was held on the appeal of Ms. Dang Thuy Trang.

Accordingly, the appellate panel did not accept Ms. Dang Thuy Trang's appeal request, upholding the first instance judgment on the groundless obligation to force Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien to pay the debt of 1.5 billion VND and other requests.
The appellate court found that according to the petition, the minutes of conciliation and at the appellate hearing, the plaintiff requested Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien to pay the debt of 1.5 billion VND. Therefore, this was a property claim relationship, but the court of first instance determined that the disputed relationship was a property loan contract, which was not true to reality.
Furthermore, according to the appeal court, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang claimed the property but could not prove that she was the lender nor prove that she had given the money, so there was no basis to accept Ms. Dang Thuy Trang's lawsuit request.
Previously, on November 7, the trial was opened and heard until the representative of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy expressed his opinion, requesting the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court to uphold the first instance judgment of the Go Vap District People's Court, that it did not accept Ms. Trang's lawsuit requesting Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien to pay the loan of 1.5 billion VND; compensate Ms. Trang for nearly 15 million VND in mental damage.
However, after deliberation, the panel of judges announced that some issues needed to be clarified, so the trial was adjourned until this afternoon, November 14, to announce the verdict.

According to the first instance judgment, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang filed a lawsuit, requesting Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien to pay her a debt of 1.5 billion VND according to the debt confirmation paper dated July 22, 2017. In this paper, Mr. Nguyen Quan Trong signed as the lender, Tien signed as the borrower stating "fully received", Ms. Trang was the witness.
However, Ms. Trang said that although she was a witness, she was actually the one who gave the money to Tien. According to Ms. Trang, at the time of borrowing, Tien needed money to participate in the 2017 Southern Beauty pageant, so she proactively sought out and borrowed 1.5 billion VND from Ms. Trang.
The person involved, Mr. Nguyen Quan Trong, in the minutes of testimony recorded at the first instance trial, stated that he signed the debt receipt of Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, but afterwards he did not give any money to Ms. Trang or Ms. Tien. He also did not witness Ms. Trang giving money to Ms. Tien. He stood on the debt receipt for Ms. Trang because of their friendship.
Authorized representative of Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien listens to the appellate panel's verdict
At the trial on November 7, the authorized representative of Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien stated that in 2017, when Thuy Tien participated in the Miss Southern Vietnam contest, Ms. Trang proactively approached Tien, saying that Tien had potential so Ms. Trang would support her. Ms. Tien said she did not have money, so Ms. Trang introduced her to Mr. Trong so that Mr. Trong could lend her 1.5 billion VND.
"Ms. Tien signed that she had received everything but in reality she had not received it. Ms. Tien signed because Ms. Trang promised to use 1.5 billion VND to invest for Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien to participate in the contest such as photography, makeup, stylist, media, relations... But later, Ms. Tien found out that Ms. Trang did not invest any amount as promised so Ms. Tien did not agree to pay the money," said Ms. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien's authorized representative.
