Actress Le Khanh said she was happy and moved to hear her name mentioned at the 29th Mai Vang Awards ceremony in 2023. Her joy was further amplified when, for the first time, she performed a role outside her usual style – Giang Huong – in the play "Giang Huong - Late Night Stage" by Thien Dang Theatre.

Reporter: Looking back on the journey so far, as spring approaches, what are your feelings, Le Khanh?

- Artist LE KHANH: Thank you, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, for inviting me to participate in the very meaningful play "Giang Huong - Stage at Night"; thank you to the family of the author - People's Artist Nguyen Thanh Chau - for allowing Thien Dang Stage to stage a classic script but with a fresh perspective on the artist's love for the stage and for art. Thanks to this, I had moments of transcendence with Giang Huong.

I took a risk by reinventing myself and I was awarded the Mai Vàng Prize. This means that the audience has opened their arms to welcome and accept me, giving me more motivation to participate in many new plays at Thien Dang Theatre in 2024.

The Mai Vàng Award is an encouragement for stage artists to strive for new achievements. I would like to thank the audience and readers of the Người Lao Động newspaper for their voting messages.

Having achieved success in comedy, what are Lê Khánh's thoughts on her portrayal of a tragic heroine, given her acting and singing style?

- This is the sixth time I've received the Mai Vàng Award, and each time it's a role that reminds me of the very happy journey of my life as an artist. The role of Giáng Hương, as I said, is very different from my forte. It's a psychologically demanding role, requiring me to maintain a certain state of mind and maturity in my performance.

I appreciated the concluding remarks of Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc about the play, as he helped me understand that everyone has dreams. Some people achieve those dreams, others don't. Many people share the same dream, and to achieve it, they have to sacrifice their sweat and blood. Some even accept loss and sacrifice to fulfill their aspirations.

Despite facing many difficulties and loneliness in her marriage, the character Giáng Hương remains strong and allows her artistic career to flourish in a meaningful way. I love the role of Giáng Hương and am grateful for the opportunity to play it.

What were Le Khanh's thoughts on joining Thien Dang Theatre?

- The inaugural performance at Thien Dang Theatre in 2023 not only made it into the top 4 most popular plays at the 29th Mai Vang Awards but also received a B prize from the Ho Chi Minh City Theatre Association.

Thien Dang is striving to build a decent art stage. As Thanh Loc shared in his message: "I die today so that this dream can be realized for the generation after me," that is the message of "decent art" that the Thien Dang artists aim for. We – the artists who have been associated with Thien Dang Stage – believe that in our dedication today, we must accept everything to achieve a decent art scene in the future.

Having recently been invited by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports to tour the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line 1 with some colleagues, what were Le Khanh's impressions?

- The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the Department of Culture and Sports recently collaborated with the Urban Railway Management Board and the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company No. 1 to organize a trip for approximately 200 artists and writers on Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line. This can be considered a special experience, aimed at inspiring creativity among the artists and writers.

I believe that after this exciting trip, many high-quality works will be showcased in response to the campaign to create, stage, and promote literary and artistic works commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, with the theme "Ho Chi Minh City - 50 Years of Proud Heroic Epic," launched by the City People's Committee.

I am very pleased with the spacious and airy metro station, which facilitates convenient travel for residents. I hope that the people of Ho Chi Minh City in general, and Thu Duc City in particular, will soon be able to enjoy this modern mode of transportation.

Ho Chi Minh City now has a completely different appearance, showing a vibrant energy. Although Metro Line 1 is short, I believe Ho Chi Minh City will continue to develop other metro lines to better serve its people.

What new projects will Le Khanh be undertaking in 2024?

- I'm very hesitant to talk about what I'm going to do in advance, because art is always full of unknowns, requiring creativity and hard work to achieve results.

My new project is still ahead. My goal has always been for each new role to be better, more convincing, and worthy of the six Mai Vàng Awards I've won in my artistic career.

What are Le Khanh's expectations for the stage in 2024?

- I hope that artists will be able to freely pursue their creative passions. I also hope that theaters will see more high-quality artistic productions that are well-received by audiences.

In particular, 2024 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Mai Vàng Awards of Người Lao Động Newspaper. We hope that the audience and readers will continue to show their love and vote for deserving artists to receive the Mai Vàng award.

As spring arrives, I hope the Mai Vang Award will continue to be a driving force for us to dedicate ourselves even more to art. Once again, I would like to thank the Mai Vang Award, and thank the readers and audience for their affection for the play "Giang Huong - Late Night Stage" and my portrayal of Giang Huong.

Actress Le Khanh, whose real name is Le Kim Khanh, was born on December 24, 1981. She is one of the rare actresses to have been voted the Mai Vang Award six times by readers and audiences for her roles: Kay ("A Stolen Life" - 2010), the fan ("Star Singer" - 2011), Hoa ("Snake Hot Pot" - 2012), Tyra Boi Ngoc ("Crazy Butterfly Dream" - 2013), Hong ("Need Someone to Love" - 2015), and Giang Huong ("Giang Huong - Late Night Stage" - 2023).

Born in Ben Tre, Le Khanh dreamed of becoming an actress from a young age and later studied acting at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film.
