Mr. Y Dhun Hmok, village elder of Dur 1 village, Dur Kmal commune, could not hide his emotions when recounting: "After hearing the news that the General Secretary had passed away forever, memories of the General Secretary's visit to Dur Kmal commune flooded back into the people's minds, with endless feelings and regret."
Mr. K'Nich, head of Dur 1 village, also shared: "Meeting General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 2018 National Unity Day is a great honor and pride. I always remember the General Secretary's sharing and warm greetings for the people of Dur Kmal base area, advising the ethnic people to promote patriotism, develop the socio-economy, maintain great unity, and ensure security and order in the village."
Mr. Pham Nguyen Ngoc, a judicial officer of Dur Kmal commune, felt honored to meet the General Secretary 5 years ago. He shared: “From the General Secretary’s advice on the sense of responsibility in performing public duties, I have constantly strived to study, improve my professional skills and awareness of serving the people, contributing to building a professional, effective and efficient administration.”
Dur Kmal commune was a revolutionary base during the resistance war against the US to save the country. The whole commune has 13 ethnic groups living together, of which ethnic minorities account for more than 50%. In 2000, the ethnic people of Dur Kmal commune were honored by the President as a Heroic Commune of the People's Armed Forces, and two villages, Buon Dur 1 and Buon Kmal, were recognized as Heroic Villages of the People's Armed Forces.
Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Dur Kmal Commune, said: “To realize the advice of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, over the past 5 years, despite many difficulties and challenges, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the commune have always maintained great solidarity, strived to complete the set goals and tasks. There have been many innovations in the countryside, and people's lives have been constantly improved. The poverty rate in the commune has decreased to 2.73%; the average income per capita has reached 50 million VND/person/year. The commune has achieved 15/19 criteria for new rural construction and is striving to reach the finish line in 2024.”
During the visit, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong planted a black star tree as a souvenir at the headquarters of the Dur Kmal Commune People's Committee. This souvenir tree was cherished and cared for by the commune's officials and people, and a stele was erected with the General Secretary's name engraved on it as a deep gratitude.
Currently, the memorial tree has become a destination for visiting groups and people when they come to the office. The cadres and people of the commune are developing and embellishing the black star memorial tree to become a heritage of the Dur Kmal people, remembering General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
