Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Le Truong Hien Hoa said that the city continues to be the leading locality in the country in terms of visitor rate, revenue and contribution to Vietnam Tourism.
In 2023, the city's tourism industry welcomed nearly 5 million international visitors and nearly 35 million domestic visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching over VND 160,000 billion. The city's tourism brand is increasingly affirmed internationally; honored by prestigious organizations in the industry as "Asia's Leading Business Tourism Destination", "Asia's Leading Festival and Event Destination", and in the top 100 most popular tourist destinations in 2023.
According to the Department of Tourism, Ho Chi Minh City is a locality with many historical and cultural relics, including many famous relics and typical locations such as: Reunification Palace, Cu Chi Tunnels, City Post Office, Sac Forest Base, Notre Dame Cathedral, War Remnants Museum... which have been exploited as destinations in tour programs in the city.
“The tourism industry has identified cultural tourism products as always attractive to tourists. According to statistics from the World Tourism Organization, cultural tourism contributes 37% of global tourism and is forecast to increase by 15% each year. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, 56% of international visitors come to the city mainly to learn about culture, while the rate for domestic visitors is 28%,” said Mr. Hoa.
One of the events that left an impression on domestic and foreign tourists in 2023 is the program "The 1st Ho Chi Minh City River Festival - 2023"; in which, the highlight is the art program "The River Tells Stories" with millions of views, nearly 1,000 posts on mass media.
From now until the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, the city will continue to have activities and festival events at the beginning of the year to serve the people and tourists, notably: The program to visit the headquarters of the People's Committee and People's Council of the city held on December 30 and 31, 2023; the ceremony to welcome the delegation to the city in early 2024 held on January 1, 2024 at the international arrival terminal of Tan Son Nhat airport; the Spring Homeland program 2024 for overseas Vietnamese, the Vietnamese Tet festival 2024 from January 18 to 21, 2024; the spring flower market "on the wharf under the boat" Tet Giap Thin 2024; Nguyen Hue flower street...
At the same time, travel service businesses in the city are also urgently completing inner-city tourism programs during Tet, meeting the needs of tourists...
