President Donald Trump reveals the process of transferring ownership of TikTok in the US

US President Donald Trump has just said that his administration is negotiating with four different groups of investors about acquiring the social networking platform TikTok - an application owned by the Chinese company, ByteDance, and all options are good.

TikTok’s fate has been in limbo since a law requiring owner ByteDance to sell it on national security grounds or face a ban took effect on Jan. 19. Trump, after taking office on Jan. 20, signed an executive order delaying the law for 75 days.

According to President Donald Trump, there are currently four candidates negotiating to buy TikTok's assets in the US.

Asked if a TikTok deal would be imminent, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that it was “possible.” “We’re working with four different groups and a lot of people who want to have it… all four are good options,” Trump added.

The TikTok app was temporarily shut down in the United States hours before the ban took effect on January 19. At the same time, the Apple Store and Google Play providers both removed ByteDance's platform from their app stores.

TikTok began restoring service after Trump said he would restore access to the app. In fact, Trump granted ByteDance a 75-day extension to enforce the ban and asked Vice President JD Vance to oversee the sale. Nearly a month later, the TikTok icon returned to the app stores of these providers.

The prospect of gaining ownership of one of the world's most popular video-sharing platforms, or at least its U.S. audience — some 170 million users — has attracted a growing list of people and organizations from the worlds of finance, technology and entertainment.

Other bidders included a group of investors led by tech entrepreneur Jesse Tinsley, including YouTube personality MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, and Wyoming businessman Reid Rasner.

Also in the running to acquire TikTok assets is former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, who has expressed interest in the fast-growing business, which analysts estimate could be worth as much as $50 billion.

Last week, Frank McCourt announced that Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and a venture capitalist, had joined the effort to acquire TikTok's U.S. operations as a strategic advisor specializing in social media.

Ohanian is an internet pioneer who founded Reddit with his roommate at the University of Virginia. He sold Reddit to Conde Nast in 2006, then returned as executive chairman in 2014 to lead a turnaround. He has also invested in a number of tech companies, including Instacart, Patreon, and OpenSea.

McCourt said Ohanian will help spearhead the Liberty Project bid to buy TikTok's U.S. assets, which he called a "people's effort" because it plans to run the app on technology that gives users control over how their data is used and shared.

The former Los Angeles Dodgers owner and his partners filed to buy TikTok in early January, as the filing deadline approached.
