The Guardian on April 5 quoted a statement from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying that US President Joe Biden accepted an invitation to visit the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from King Charles III.
The invitation was made during a roughly 30-minute phone call in which President Biden sent his congratulations to King Charles III on his upcoming coronation. Traditionally, the US President does not attend the coronation of the British monarch; instead, the US First Lady will attend the ceremony.
The news comes after the White House announced that the US President will travel to Northern Ireland (part of the UK) and the Republic of Ireland from April 11 to 14, to mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement that ended the violent period of the Northern Ireland conflict. President Biden will also visit County Louth and County Mayo (in Ireland) - his ancestral homeland - and deliver a speech to the Irish Parliament .
