According to President Putin, the four tigers originated from the Khabarovsk region of Russia's Far East and were transported by plane to Kazakhstan to be released back into the wild.

Kazakhstan is currently working to restore tiger populations in Central Asia, considering the Amur tiger to be a close relative of the extinct Caspian tiger.

Kazakhstan, a country rich in energy and mineral resources, shares a border with Russia and is a close ally of Moscow in a region where China and the United States are also expanding their influence.

During his upcoming visit to Kazakhstan, President Putin will oversee the signing of an agreement on a nuclear power project in Kazakhstan – a country that currently has no nuclear power plants – and will discuss efforts to boost the transit of Russian oil to China through the country, the Kremlin said.

Previously, President Putin has repeatedly used animals to advance diplomatic efforts.

In 2022, Russia sent 30 thoroughbred grey horses to North Korea as the two countries strengthened their relations. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is an avid horse rider.
