General environmental sanitation, mosquito and larvae extermination to prevent and control human diseases

(HG) - The Steering Committee for the prevention and control of dangerous human diseases in Long My town has just launched a general environmental sanitation campaign, killing mosquitoes and larvae to prevent and control dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease, phase III in 2023.

The campaign took place from November 21 to 24. The target was that 100% of communes and wards held a campaign launching ceremony; 100% of households were mobilized by departments, branches, organizations, medical staff, and collaborators to clean the environment, kill mosquitoes and larvae, prevent dengue fever, and practice personal hygiene to prevent hand, foot, and mouth disease; 100% of hamlets and areas where the campaign was organized were surveyed and evaluated after the campaign with a household mosquito index (HI) < 10% and a Breteau index (BI) < 10; 100% of agencies, authorities, departments, branches, organizations, schools, medical facilities, and businesses located in the area organized activities to participate in responding to the campaign; 100% of communes and wards in the whole town have organized radio broadcasts to propagate the campaign, distribute leaflets, hang banners and posters with information about dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease; 100% of kindergartens and preschools implement mosquito bite prevention, food hygiene, personal hygiene, learning tools and classrooms...

Since the beginning of 2023, Long My town has recorded 85 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease and 45 cases of dengue fever. Compared to the same period last year, hand, foot and mouth disease increased by 55 cases, dengue fever decreased by 40 cases.
