This is Tottenham's first major signing under new manager Thomas Frank. Throughout the summer, Tottenham frantically searched for a quality attacking midfielder after failing in their attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) and Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace). The successful acquisition of Xavi Simons – one of the most promising talents in European football – is seen as a crucial turning point for the North London club.

Xavi Simons will remain with Tottenham until 2030.

The 22-year-old Dutch player signed a five-year contract with Tottenham, with an option to extend for a further two seasons. He will wear the number 7 shirt at Tottenham Stadium – a number previously worn by former captain Son Heung-min.
Xavi Simons can play on both wings, performs well as an attacking midfielder, and promises to bring much-needed flexibility to manager Thomas Frank's tactical system.

"I'm very happy and excited to get started with Spurs. This is a great club and when I met the manager, I knew right away this was the right place for me. I will bring creativity, discipline and hard work to help the team achieve victory," Simons shared.
A product of Barcelona's La Masia academy, Simons joined PSG in 2019 before making a significant impact during his loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in the 2022-2023 season, scoring a total of 22 goals.
In his last two seasons with RB Leipzig, he continued to maintain his impressive form with 22 goals and 24 assists in 78 matches.

Xavi Simons is a versatile player with great potential for development.
Xavi Simons - a beloved player
Tottenham are aggressively pursuing Simons after RB Leipzig agreed to let him go due to missing out on Champions League qualification. Initially, Simons was expected to join Chelsea, but Chelsea's inability to offload players they no longer needed created an opportunity for Spurs to benefit.
Manager Thomas Frank has repeatedly urged the club's leadership to recruit more players since taking office in June. The failure to sign Gibbs-White and Eze, along with James Maddison's serious injury, has further spurred Tottenham to act.

Tottenham's future
Simons has completed his medical and the £52 million deal will be announced on August 30th, just hours before the match against Bournemouth in the third round of the Premier League. The Dutch newcomer is expected to make his debut at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before this match, although it is unclear whether he will be able to play immediately.
With the arrival of Xavi Simons, Spurs fans expect the team to have more creativity, speed, and unpredictability in attack, and to usher in a new, ambitious era under manager Thomas Frank.
