Tottenham were thrashed 6-1 by Newcastle at the weekend, ending Cristian Stellini's four-match reign as caretaker manager. Things could have gone from bad to worse in Ryan Mason's first game in charge as United trailed 2-0 at half-time at home.

MU dropped victory against Tottenham

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for the visitors after just seven minutes before Marcus Rashford added his 29th goal of the season. But Tottenham fought back to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Pedro Porro pulled one back with a low finish before Harry Kane set up Son Heung-min for a 79th-minute equaliser.

A valuable point in this match helps Tottenham return to 5th place, but is still 6 points behind 4th place MU and has played 2 more matches.

Meanwhile, Newcastle extended their eight-point lead to a top-four finish and a place in next season's Champions League after Callum Wilson scored twice at Everton's Goodison Park. Eddie Howe's side struggled before half-time but took the lead through Wilson's superb finish.

Newcastle continue to fly high

Newcastle snuffed out Everton's efforts in the final 20 minutes as Joelinton, Wilson and Alexander Isak scored to secure a 4-1 win. Dwight McNeil's goal meant nothing to Everton as they remained empty-handed and stuck in the relegation zone, above bottom-placed Southampton, who lost 1-0 at home to Bournemouth in the same match.

Thus, Newcastle (62 points) and MU (60 points) are dominating the race for a top 4 position after the remaining 2 spots have been secured for Arsenal and Man City. Tottenham, Aston Villa (both 54 points) and Liverpool (53 points) still have hope if they have good results in the remaining rounds.
