Can Tho City: Launching People's Action for a Green - Clean

Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee delivered the opening speech at the ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee said: In recent times, environmental sanitation has always been an important annual event of the city to maintain environmental hygiene, not littering in public places; collecting and treating household waste according to regulations, creating a habit of people living in an environmentally friendly way; at the same time, through environmental protection activities, it demonstrates solidarity, connecting everyone with the common goal of making Can Tho City green - clean - beautiful - safe.

According to Mr. Duong Tan Hien, after 20 years of formation and development, Can Tho City has achieved many important achievements in the fields of economy , culture, society and environmental protection. In recent years, the city has always paid attention to implementing environmental protection solutions through building civilized urban areas, new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and models. Thereby, increasing the rate of household waste collection in urban and rural areas; waste in agricultural production, typically post-harvest straw and pesticide packaging, is increasingly collected and treated, contributing to environmental protection in urban and rural areas; production, business and service establishments in the city have also become more aware of environmental protection and basically collect and treat waste generated in accordance with regulations.

In order to join hands in building Can Tho City to be increasingly green - clean - beautiful - safe, Mr. Duong Tan Hien called on all levels, sectors, unions, socio -political organizations, production and business establishments, services and all people of the city to actively participate in environmental protection activities, towards an environmentally friendly life; minimize and cut down the use of plastic products and nylon bags as well as give up the habit of littering; raise the sense of responsibility to join hands and take specific, practical actions for nature and the earth.

At the same time, Mr. Duong Tan Hien also suggested: “After today's launching ceremony, departments, branches, socio-political organizations, unions, People's Committees of districts and towns continue to promote propaganda about the role and importance of environmental protection to all cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers, youth union members, students and people; especially, focusing on reducing solid waste, combating plastic pollution, improving the classification of household waste at source; applying advanced, environmentally friendly technology in recycling and waste treatment; overcoming and improving environmental pollution; strengthening activities to prevent environmental crimes; strongly promoting the movement of the whole people to participate in effectively implementing the Program of planting 1 billion trees".

Responding to the call of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, at this launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, proposed: The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and member organizations continue to propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on environmental protection and climate change response; at the same time, further strengthen environmental protection coordination programs with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment; organize environmental cleaning campaigns; promote the implementation and replication of effective environmental protection projects and models; effectively perform the role of supervision and social criticism of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, and communities in environmental protection work; coordinate with local authorities and functional agencies to inspect, remind and handle violations of state regulations on environmental protection, causing environmental pollution.
