Preserving relics - promoting historical values
There are currently hundreds of historical-cultural relics and traditional heritages in the province. However, due to time and the impact of the market mechanism, many values are at risk of being lost. To overcome this situation, in recent years, the province has implemented many synchronous solutions, focusing on embellishing, restoring and promoting heritage values.
Dinh Hoa Safety Zone (ATK) is a typical example. During the resistance war against French colonialism, this place was once the “windy capital”, where President Ho Chi Minh and other leaders of the Party, State and army lived, worked and made many important decisions.
To promote the value of ATK Dinh Hoa - a special national historical relic site, Thai Nguyen province has established a specialized management unit, mobilizing many resources to preserve and restore 13 important relic sites. Since the beginning of the year, tens of thousands of people have come to visit, research and experience ATK Dinh Hoa, affirming the attraction of the "red address" for educating revolutionary traditions.
Not only ATK Dinh Hoa, many other relics have also received investment attention. The National Historical Site of the 915 Youth Volunteer Company - Team 91 Bac Thai in Gia Sang Ward, the memorial site for 60 martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the night of December 24, 1972, has been built spaciously. Every year, this place welcomes tens of thousands of people to pay their respects, becoming a destination to nurture revolutionary ideals for the young generation.
Cultural and religious relics such as Ly Nam De Temple and Duom Temple have also received great resources from the province, mobilizing social resources to embellish and restore the ancient space, meeting the religious needs of the people. In particular, Duom Temple Festival with its solemn rituals has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and is being taught to the next generation, ensuring sustainable inheritance.
Spreading heritage in the community

Along with tangible relics, Thai Nguyen 's intangible heritage is also very rich. With many ethnic groups living together, the province currently has many intangible cultural heritages ranked at the national level, such as: Nom Dao script, embroidery art of the Dao people; Vi singing of the Tay people; Tac Xinh dance, the crop praying festival of the San Chay people; Long Tong festival of the Tay people...
In the old Bac Kan, unique values such as the art of decorative patterns on Red Dao costumes, Then singing, Pao Dung, bowl dancing... are still vividly present in the community. Most places with heritage have established clubs, supported with costumes, musical instruments, and living space, thereby maintaining and spreading traditional cultural values in daily life.
Notably, the province also focuses on preserving architectural spaces and traditional villages - places that "keep the soul" of national culture. In the face of urbanization, many villages are at risk of losing their old appearance, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has deployed the preservation of three typical traditional villages: Nung village in Tan Do hamlet (Van Lang commune); San Chi village in Dong Keu hamlet (Phu Dinh commune); Tay village in Ban Dong hamlet (Hop Thanh commune).
In Ban Dong, the new cultural house was built in the Tay stilt house architecture, spacious and airy, becoming a place to organize meetings, community activities, and traditional festivals. Thanks to that, folk cultural activities were restored, creating an exciting atmosphere, connecting people. Some ancient stilt houses were selected for restoration, combined with welcoming tourists, introducing traditional cuisine, thereby both preserving architecture and developing livelihoods.
According to Ms. Ma Thi Bau, Head of the Front Committee of Ban Dong hamlet, since the hamlet cultural house was built, everyone is excited because there is a common living space, both maintaining culture and creating a spiritual playground for the people. Mr. Nguyen Van Giap, 80 years old, a prestigious person in the community, also shared: Children go to school and work far away, but when they come home, they still communicate in Tay language, considering it a pride and responsibility to preserve the identity of their ethnic group.
Preserving and promoting Sli singing |
It can be seen that the government and community are actively working together to preserve and promote traditional cultural values.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province, in recent times, the province has implemented many solutions such as restoring relics, recreating festivals, providing costumes and musical instruments for artisans, opening classes to teach folk songs and dances, and establishing a series of folk culture clubs. Linking conservation with community tourism helps heritage not be "framed" but become a development resource, bringing economic benefits to the people.
In particular, the application of digital technology in promoting culture is also emphasized. Many relic records have been digitized, 3D images have been created, and introduced on online platforms.
Festivals and traditional cultural experience programs are widely communicated, attracting a large number of tourists, especially young people. This is a new direction, helping traditional culture keep up with modern trends without losing its core values.
After the merger, Thai Nguyen set a clear direction: Considering culture as an endogenous resource, a driving force for socio-economic development; taking heritage as the foundation for building identity, affirming local position in international integration.
Culture is not only a spiritual factor, but also a tourism product, a bridge to promote the image of a Thai Nguyen as “peaceful, happy, prosperous and friendly” to friends at home and abroad. Preserving culture is not about framing the past, but is the way to create the future.
